hi chrissie i have done what you are asking. if you get a piece of wood 8x2ins drill two holes 1/2 in press two copper pipe fittings into them ,solder two suitable size cables to them with connectors on the other connect to battery clamps when not in use i cover the copper fittings with walking...

you can get a chrome exhaust deflector several sizes in halfords this cured the problem on my xantia hope this helps bill
