    European Vs UK caravans.

It's a very balanced review. In support of European caravans - we have a 2006 small Fendt (I was working in Germany at the time) - the layout is not a problem in UK, as pointed out, providing you have motor mover. As our french double bed is in the front, when UK caravans back in to their...

Sorry - as read, my post did not make sense. It was meant to relate to Lutz's post. RIP Parksy

    Parksy our Moderator

My sentiments entirely - I couldn't have put it any better. I never met him but had huge respect for the way he moderated the forum. My condolences also to his family.

    Essential spares

If it helps, I broke a pad (first time in just under 40 years of caravanning) in the south of Germany - the hitch was stuck onto the car and, whatever I did, I couldn't move it. Eventually it came off but with one of the pads broken. I phoned the guy who services my caravan who said that, as...

    Air conditioning

It was! We went on a little bit of a whim. We were on a 6-month drift through Spain going down the Portuguese side and back up the Mediterranean coast. We had been invited to a wedding in Toledo in the middle of October which was our only fixed point and one of only 2 sites that we booked in...

    Air conditioning

Thanks, John. I have popped up in the forum from time to time over the past 9 years but, as our caravan is a 17 year old German one and most of our touring has been in Scandinavia and Europe (with a quick excursion to Morocco), I don't have much to contribute to the general discussions, so most...

    Air conditioning

We have a Truma Saphir Comfort RC under bed/bunk A/C. It is very efficient at cooling the caravan and the noise inside is acceptable - it doesn't disturb us at night. However, a word of caution. If you were think of fitting one, when the compressor cuts in, it is noisy outside. Consequently...

    Forgetting Things

We had one of those lists a long time ago. In the days of 'bucket and spade' holidays where we stayed put for the duration, we arrived at our campsite in Sant Pere Pescador to realise that we could hang the washing out but were not able to 'peg' the awning down. Mea culpa but you only do it once!

Preferred method of levelling your caravan.

I have a single axle and have been using 1 or 2 yellow ramps and chocks for as long as I can remember but, for the past 5 years when the slope, occasionally, is too much for them, I use Lock n' Level.

    Separate Freezer

We have used a Waeco Coolfreeze CFX35 for 2 years now and have found it to be very efficient. I keep it in the caravan plugged into the mains when on site and in the boot of the car plugged into the 12v socket when travelling. We travel a lot in Europe (or used to until new knee and lockdown!)...

    Auto or Manual

I agree with Parksy. I have a Santa Fe which I think has the same engine as the Sorrento. Never had a problem with the auto box. I tow a heavy - 1700 kg - single axle caravan all over Europe. Relaxed towing and never found a hill that it can't cope with. The auto box does have manual...

    Hyundai Santa Fe?

We started with a 2014 Santa Fe pulling a 1700 kg single axle caravan always loaded to its maximum. It pulled it with ease. Plenty of torque, enough power for an overtake when the opportunity arose and never found a hill that it could not cope with. Travelled all over Europe with it without...

    galpton devon

We stayed there twice at the end of June 2018 & 2019 for a week each time. Nice campsite with friendly helpful staff. Some hard standing but mainly grass pitches. Sloped site but gives you views from most of the pitches over the River Dart and, if the weather is good, some cracking sunsets...

    Best way to get wifi

Thank you - will do. Don't use the forum very often but will make sure I am up to speed on the guidance in future.

    Best way to get wifi

I use an iBoost Pro D8 system. It boost the WiFi signal of a campsite. If the router is in the office then it is no use but, if the campsite has the odd antenna around, it will boost the signal sufficiently to give you access. Currently in Sicily and using it as I type - not sure I can...
