    are you sure its a static shock? ie you touch it once, get the initial shock and then can touch it without further shocks. reason i ask is that i once had an inverter that did the same, but it turned out the inverter had an internal fault and my actual laptop was live with a small voltage...

    oops, didnt finish last message, trigger happy with the mouse... the way to fix is to stop the water getting in and thoroughly dry the insulation. then you need to clean throughly and apply some aluminium etch primer on the inside surface of the metal, followed by some paint - i used...

    in my experience, the holes are a result of the damp, rather than the cause of it. somewhere you will have a leak in the mastic and this has let water into the insulation and been held close to the unpainted aluminum skin which has caused the metal to rot from the inside.

    assuming its a cascade 2. depends where its leaking. is it coming from the tank, or the burner casting? if its from the end nut, then you may be able to replace the small O ring, if its the tank to heater casting, then you may be able to replace the huge O ring. if its from the burner...

    i suspect the local garage was mistaken - nothing should just overheat without a cause - think of the army using landrovers in the desert... i would suspect a blocked radiator (either internally the waterways are gunged up, or externally with mud/road dirt) or a defective viscous fan unit...
