Is there a definitive way to find a tow cars capability?

WRT CX5 Max of 2100kg, that came from the table local Mazda dealer had and refers to the "European up to 12% Gradient", so limited use for judging real world towing 1800kg for 2.0 Petrol / manual gearbox 2000kg for other engine / gearbox combinations 2100kg for one of the Diesel / Auto...

Is there a definitive way to find a tow cars capability?

thanks folks, I have read so much on this topic. Finding facts has been challenging, and there seem to be many conflicting opinions. Maybe some additional specific facts will help: Mazda quote a max towing capability of 1800kg to 2100kg depending on the engine power and gearbox - but that is...

Is there a definitive way to find a tow cars capability?

We don't currently have a tow car, so I cant go and look at the manual or anything - online there seems to be conflicting views for some (many?) models. So how do you know? When we are looking at specific cars, how can we find out? FWIW we are currently liking Mazda CX5 AWD ( would have...

Opinions, Eriba vs "sensible" choice for off season?

thanks Mel - yes we have debated the camper option a lot (in our case Sprinter based) and actually got to the point of agreeing a deal just as Covid hit. It seems to be a compromise either way, 5 years later and I think we are much less 'touring' biased than we would have been back then Our...

Opinions, Eriba vs "sensible" choice for off season?

the other (admittedly solvable) issue is we are liking the CX5 as our tow car. I don't think it can pull an Adria at 1800kg? We have been looking at 1500 to 1600kg as our max, is that not right?

Opinions, Eriba vs "sensible" choice for off season?

Thanks Andy - course is booked, but I have to say an 8m Adria (and wide at that!) looks way more scary to take down a Welsh lane than mid sized van - to a novice towwer like me anyhow

Opinions, Eriba vs "sensible" choice for off season?

Thank Hutch, we are tending to focus on preferred destinations and then research what's available One route plan I have in mind is Amien, Normandy to Brittany and down the Atlantic Coast, spent my summers around St Malo as a kid and never really got to explore. Likewise Holland up to Denmark...

Opinions, Eriba vs "sensible" choice for off season?

So we spent half a day at the weekend in Eribas - and have decided they wont work for us, even with an awning. Seriously cute and interesting but the thought of a rainy week in November in one just wasnt the best answer for us. We also spent some time looking at Adria Altea etc and, despite...

Opinions, Eriba vs "sensible" choice for off season?

Choosing with head or heart for a winter use caravan? Been looking for a couple of months and we have seen a lot of caravans. Seem to have boiled our needs down to: Fairly compact, Adria might be lovely but 8m is too much for a novice and we plan long journeys, possibly on narrower roads and...

    Hobbies that are caravan friendly?

^ what they said I don't like sweet drinks (which still leaves Bovril I suppose). The water in this country is not nice Struggle with the idea of zero alcohol spirits though, a decent single malt is supposed to warm you up

    Hobbies that are caravan friendly?

thanks folks, with us looking mainly at off season, with shorter days, I was curious about the indoor stuff. Radio is an interesting one, not done that since I was a kid, used to listen to stuff from all round the world on a Sony Short Wave. Internet radio is fun. Know nothing about the whole...

    Club WiFi booster

slightly random question, here seems a good a place to ask as anywhere With these 4G router systems you can put outside your van, can you use the SIM out of your phone while you are using the 4G router system? And then back in your phone when you are done? I know you wont be able to make calls...

    Upgrading locks / security?

thanks folks - good to hear from the wisdom on here :) Related Q - Alko wheel lock doesn't have a listed fitting for Knaus alloy wheels on their website, I assume they can still be fitted?

    Upgrading locks / security?

So we are caravan newbs looking to mostly be travelling off season One concern I have is security, mostly when we are on very quiet sites, off season . Welcome views - for security to prevent break ins - what are the options? Can you upgrade caravan door locks? Seen the Milenco hand rail...
