    Interesting Petition

Nice to see that the CAMC actually provided a constructive response - unlike some of the members of their own forum :) It was never going to provide an immediate change but is good to see that the CAMC isn't blinkered against potential changes in demand.

    Interesting Petition

A new petition has been created urging the CAMC to look at alternative provision for motorhomes on the basis that they need less facilities than are provided by existing sites and located closer to towns. It makes an interesting suggestion that existing sites might suffer if (towed) caravan...

Thule awning rafters. Useful or a menace?

I wouldn't be inclined to pay for a fitted awning. Our first van didn't have one and we used several stand alone ones over the years. We only have the current one because it was on the van when we bought it but don't use it all that often.

Thule awning rafters. Useful or a menace?

The instructions are somewhat contradictory. The Thule web site also says (under What should I do in case of rain?) "Your awning is mainly intended as protection against the sun" and is rather ambiguous under What should I do in case of wind or storm? As a risk management exercise I would...

Thule awning rafters. Useful or a menace?

With that amount of rain I'm surprised that the awning didn't give way, not just the rafter. All the documentation I've seen advises that awnings are sunshades and not meant for use in stormy weather. We bought a couple of rafters to use instead of the "arms" supplied with windblockers, and...

    Pub overnight stops

Thanks Sarah. Long time no see, hope you are well. I don't think a legislative change is required for exemption certificates, just a relaxation of the requirements of the range of facilities to be provided by CLs/CSs. That would enable businesses which are not able to provide water and...

Damp and cool in the north east yesterday so I decided it was time for a revision of my Motorhome Parking web site - http://www.motorhomeparking.co.uk/

    Pub overnight stops

I agree wholeheartedly and it's been pleasing to see that constructive lobbying has brought positive results in recent years. However, unless land owners (councils or private) see an economic benefit in setting them up then they won't do it. It is unlikely that somebody is going to spend money...

    Pub overnight stops

Thanks Tony. You've highlighted another reason why I hardly ever use motorhome forums any more. In the last few years they have become increasingly populated with people who rant against breaking of this law and that law - including, prominently, the setting up of unlicensed caravan sites by...

    Pub overnight stops

Two weeks and not even a glimmer of interest in promoting legal camping (or even a reason why support of unlicensed caravan sites should not be discouraged). And yet people still ask why I hardly ever use motorhome forums any more :(

Overnight parking near Portsmouth ferry terminal

If you go to use the site which Tony mentioned, take care to check for any newer restrictions. Search for sites is known for continuing to list places where one can supposedly stay even when they no longer are (or never have been).

Overnight parking near Portsmouth ferry terminal

Presumably you mean camping overnight rather than simply parking for a short while. At that time of night you will probably be too late to get into a caravan site unless you can find a late night arrivals area. The CAMC has a site at Rookesbury Park near Fareham which might have a late night...

    Pub overnight stops

I absolutely agree about the self-contained point. The vast majority of our camping since we bought our first motorhome in 2006 has been at rallies or Temporary Holiday Sites with no facilities other than fresh water and waste disposal. I also understand the reasons - I've heard people use...

    Pub overnight stops

They do take business away Tony, as people don't just stay after eating/drinking, they stay deliberately because it is cheaper than paying someone who is running a licensed business. A motorhoming friend set up a CL in Scotland, ideally placed (as he thought) for motorhomers to stop the night...

    Pub overnight stops

Having not logged on for several months I did so today having been asked to comment on a particular post. Whilst doing so I spotted this one. Searching for the White Hart in Bishop's Caundle on UK Campsites produces no hits so the indication is that it doesn't have a caravan site licence or...
