Welcome to the forum, sounds like you have plans in place to get you off to a great start ! Good choice to opt for a towing course always a good idea to get some expert advice and some experience under your belt. Also a few weekends away close to home are great for getting used to everything...

If you are on FB there is a group on there for sites open all year round and they have files by area that you can look through to see where is open.

The Grouse and Claret pub on the A6 at Rowsley have a caravan site at the back. Facilities limited but pub is nice and has a dog friendly area. Its a couple of miles walk along the river, passing by the garden centre and Calton Lees car park, to Chatsworth House.

We have the carry chef 2 which came with the BBQ plate and the chefs pan. We love it and cook pretty much everything on it if the weather is good enough. The chef pan is the one we use the most. We use our cadac for full English breakfasts (put beans in a foil takeaway tray to heat up)...

Thanks Woodentop - I do wonder whether its necessary to keep such a close eye but you hear the stories where caravans have been stolen at service areas ! I would still definitely use the Gloucester services again as they were so good especially the dog walk area.

My local delicacy is the Bakewell pudding - nothing like Bakewell tart - it is flaky pastry with jam and an almond flavoured, eggy custardy type filling that is a secret recipe....and definitely no icing on top ! Delicious :)

Lovely to hear that you have been enjoying your adventures. One thing I have found is that there are always people around who are happy to help - whether its an extra pair of hands to put up an awning or some advice on the best place for a meal out - such a friendly bunch :)
