    Caravan Alarm

I tend to err on the side of total honesty with insurers, they will use any excuse to avoid paying a claim. So I've told them we don't use the alarm at all and don't have a tracker, it made no difference to the price so why give them the opportunity to wriggle out of paying a claim? Telling...

    Refund of caravan purchase

Correct, I just had the below feom my car insurers when i checked to ensure they knew the car had a towbar "And, the customer is covered to tow a single trailer, broken-down vehicle, Caravan or Horsebox. Please note: damage to the item being towed or any items carried in them are not covered."

    Mitsubishi Outlander shock / replacement

Thanks, I will check with Witter. The Government recall list only mentions a 2011 recall for Witter bars on Mitsubishi Shoguns. I hope to have better dreams than that!😊

    Mitsubishi Outlander shock / replacement

Thanks for all the input and helpful comments. We now have a series 3 Santa Fe on the drive, we were fortunate enough to find one which happened to have a towbar, so saving a heap on having one fitted. Hoping this means a normal year of caravanning for a change. We can't wait to get out.

    Mattress topper

We have a 10cm topper bought off amazon for £30, not expecting much for that price we were surprised at its comfort. It also folds with the bed and is very lightweight

To empty the Toilet Chemical flush or not?

It probably adds about 10kg or so when full, our manual says to empty it for towing as apparently it can splash out. It's not something I remember to do often, and it's never leaked. I never saw the need for pink stuff, and many vans nowadays have no top tank and flush water comes from the...

    Favourite Caravan Tyre Brand?

Since I only change van tyres every 5-7 years I don't have a favourite, just whatever seems good when the time comes round. Oddly our caravan tyres have always dropped pressure (only by 3-4 psi over 6 months or so), whereas the car does not. I always wondered if this is due to the higher...

    Mitsubishi Outlander shock / replacement

Overall to keep life simple the Outlander is going. We spent half of last year fighting with Elddis and have no wish to do the same with Mitsubishi this year, we just want to get out with the caravan. We're pretty much settled on the Santa Fe, Sorentos seem to command a premium, however many...

    Mitsubishi Outlander shock / replacement

Thanks, sadly we would be looking at the diesel, so will avoid. We will be viewing Santa Fes when we get back from holiday after Easter.

It's Got Me Again!!! Panel Cracks!!!

PXd our lightly used 3 year old Elddis last year after the side started falling off and elddis washed their hands of it (it was our fault apparently). Wouldn't touch an Elddis / Edwin Hymer group product with a barge pole.

    Mitsubishi Outlander shock / replacement

Thanks for all the helpful comments, we've added the Skoda Kodiak to the theoretical list, which right now is Kodiak, Santa fe and Sorento in that order. However I note some concerns about the Skoda gearbox on this forum, being dsg it my not be ideal for maneuvering a caravan. Next step is to...

    Close call!

My wife had one with an A class Mercedes, provided by the dealer. When a small sensor in the gearbox failed they refused to pay even though the book was fully stamped as one service invoice was missing . That cost us £2000.

    Mitsubishi Outlander shock / replacement

Yes it's the diesel with 86k miles, we had expected it to do at least 150k without major problems. The issue was flagged by our local garage and confirmed by the main dealer, so sadly two opinions agree. Apparently it's a known issue and Mitsubishi issued a 'fix' about 3 years ago...

    Mitsubishi Outlander shock / replacement

Thanks for the quick replies. We're thinking about a diesel automatic, the annual towing mileage isn't huge, probably about 2,000 max but that's about 20% of our overall annual miles. We are limited to automatics and more upright higher cars due to the onset of arthritis. Depending on what we...

    Mitsubishi Outlander shock / replacement

We've had the outlander for 5 years since it was a year old and it's been a brilliant tow car, if a bit thirsty (22mpg towing) However in December we found the exhaust manifold was cracked, £950 to replace, now we've been told it has an engine problem which will cost £4500 to fix plus a...
