    Weather noise

You are dead right! After three very wet nights in Santiago de Compostela we were wishing for the same thing...but what would you do about the Hekki ventilators? To our ears that was the worst source of noise. Perhaps a giant brollie?

Fiat & Peugeot - driving comfort?

Sorry I don't mean to be impertinent but I am 6'0" and have had three Ducatos with no problems whatsoever on seat comfort. Did you RAISE the seat? That makes a huge difference. Did you choose vans with a bulkhead immediately behind the seat? That can restrict the movement rearwards with...

Overnight parking near Portsmouth ferry terminal

I have used the free car park next to Fort Widley on Portsdown Hill many times. Sometimes activity by young people but have had no problems. OS map ref is 505104. Lovely views. 10 mins from Port. Other parks further west on Portsdown have height barriers.

    Tubular storage on bike rack

Certainly looks like that but I can't locate secure end caps. Still looking.

Thule awning rafters. Useful or a menace?

You've obviously seen the light. I have.....finally. Can't count how many times I've had to get up in the night to roll it in because a predicted breeze became a real gale. Why leave it out at all? To keep the table and chairs/groundsheet dry. That's what you want it for but if it ain't up to...

Thule awning rafters. Useful or a menace?

Erring on the cautious side probably means leave well alone and GO to GO Outdoors for a Coleman Fastpitch Shelter (currently less than half price) which I am about to do. We saw several on our campsite being used by Brits, Dutch and Germans and they all withstood the weather admirably. One Brit...

Thule awning rafters. Useful or a menace?

You might think that but the Thule handbook says they can be used in winds up to Beaufort 6 which I believe is gale force winds....and how do you know when an unpredictable localised storm will appear. Not even Wimbledon can get round that. I think that roll-out awnings are really not fit for...

Thule awning rafters. Useful or a menace?

Like many others I bought a rafter (approx £50) for my Thule 4.5 metre awning. On breezy days it helped keep the awning tight and on wet days gave a slope either side to aid run-off. Whilst in France in June we suffered a huge downpour which flooded the campsite to a depth of around 5 inches...

    Tubular storage on bike rack

Hi everyone. I have seen quite a few people using one or even two pieces of large diameter plastic pipe to store groundsheets, parasols etc fitted inside the main loop of bike racks. Last week I saw a guy in France with two of them but quite large diameters. They appear to have securable end...

    Satellite issues

Bit late for a response but first let me say this is an immensely big subject with lots of variables. So to begin wth, assuming your Humax IS in working order the next question is whereabouts in France? Anywhere south of a line from La Rochelle to Strasbourg will need a larger dish (min 60cms)...

    Pecking order!

Hmmmm, you should hear the tale of woe about my 2002 Autosleeper Amethyst......70 faults on delivery and so many nights in Broadway hotels whilst Autosleeper tried and often failed to get it right. And many of those were down to the Ford chassis/axle/gearbox. But mostly just cost-cutting and...

    Quiet Indicators!!

Can't answer that problem although it's one I have much sympathy with but there is an indicator problem I would appreciate any advice on....it concerns the (stupid) Ducato idea of having the indicators flash a few times when you merely brush the stalk. It's especially annoying when you can't use...

Lost C1 when over 70......can it be reinstated?

Further to my last advice, go to . You should visit a Post Office and collect a form D1 and in the relevant box indicate you wish to renew your C1 classification. You send this and the form you will get from the medic service, plus your existing licence to the DVLA at the addresses shown on the...

Lost C1 when over 70......can it be reinstated?

YES IT CAN!!!! I have just done it and am 74. You need a medical first and as per my tip elsewhere on the Forum, I recommend you use the excellent services of www.doctorsonwheels.com who will charge you £51, and you then have an agreed rendezvous point near you where they come with a doctor and...

    Spare Wheel

Which goes back to the point made on my posting about licence medicals....that it is time the DVLA/Government/manufacturers stopped mucking about and put motorhomes and campers into two distinct categories for taxation, licence and weight/tonnages, separate from cars and goods vehicles, i.e...
