thanks for reply, yes it can be pushed opened or closed, not sure if you could see in image, the previous owner even wrote in white paint, this way open, this way closed.

yes, thanks, plenty of water in the tank, this is why when i turned the taps on, realised the water was coming through hot, without the switched turned on, on the control panel
