Petrol Station Fuel Cost Rant !!

Whilst I can't say there isn't any profiteering going on, but I do know that traders at motorway service areas all have to pay a rent premium for the privilege of trading there. It's been that way since the first motorways opened in the UK.

Dometic fridge igniter won't push in

It is fairly clear that the fridge has not been used on gas for some time, hence the damage to the battery. I'd guess the previous owners probably only used mains power when on site, and 12V operation when towing. To avoid the same problem I'd suggest removing the ignitor battery when...

    ESM4 problems, can I upgrade?

As well you know every UK retail sale is subject to the CRA, but if the goods are described by the seller as "second hand and sold as seen" (or equivalent wording) then that statement forms part of the contract and the risk falls on the buyer.

    Electrical Issues

If the 12V battery has zero volts across its terminals, then be prepared to have to get a new battery. Lead Acid batteries discharged to zero V (infact anything below 12V) for any extended period will damage the battery. Obviously with a flat OV) battery non of the 12V equipment will...

    ESM4 problems, can I upgrade?

Scrap yards do make money from selling dismantled caravans, but look at the warranty they will offer - very limited. If it suits you and its at a throw away price then you may be lucky, but all of these units will be well past their best, and thue nearer to failing than when...

EVs and Hybrids Drive through Car Wash

Firstly your link is to a facebook page, and I don't use facebook, But I will assume it questions the safety of using a chassis washer at a car wash, against the risk wetting important electrical gear, ie EV's My take on this relates the penetration of water(and or chemicals) and I...

    Electrical Issues

At the risk alienating, you and your generous family member who gifted you the caravan, I do echo Buckman's concerns about damp. I would only begin to spend money on sorting the electrics as long I am certain about the existing condition of the caravan. If there is any damp, that...

    ESM4 problems, can I upgrade?

I wouldn't even consider buying a second hand charger offered on its own, Why would anyone try and sell just a second hand specific caravan charger? Most likely because its need to be replaced. Your best choices would be seek a quality repair, or replace the entire unit with quality...

    Motor movers and the law?

Let me make it clear when I commented in #17, I specifically did not say a motor mover would be classed as a mobility scooter, I suggested it might be considered in a similar vein to a mobility scooter, becasue of the limited speeds involved. Consequently all the references to the...

    Motor movers and the law?

Based on what you have written that would apply to all mobility scooters! as they can all be driven below 4mph,. The actual criteria is with a top speed of no greater than 4 mph are class 2 and can be driven on a pavement and only cross a road, where as those with a top speed of 8mph...

    Snapped Jockey wheel clamp handle

In addition to drilling a hole in the stuck bolt, and trying penetrating oil, and in case these don't work I would consider the use of some heat onto the boss/nut (using a hot air gun with due protection for the A frame cover) to expand the nut a little.

Tow car of the year. Anyone ever tow with one?

Technically yes = 2007 VW Passat - but I never towed with it, but I know many who did.

    Motor movers and the law?

Although you may have made the post in jest, there is an argument that as the top speed driven by the mover does not exceed 4 mph, it might be a class ed like a class 2 mobility scooter which does not exceed 4mph and may be used on pavements and to cross roads.

    Thetford Fridge struggling with heat?

I have actually found the opposite! and I conclude that with gas fridges that use a pilot light, the cooling is equal to the electric, but the continuous pilot light can add unwanted heat behind the fridge which may increase the amount of ambient heat finding its way back into the...

Water system for Abi Celebration 450 ct (1992)

The first thing to do is to find out if the pump is actually working. Unplug the pump from the side of the caravan and using some electrical wire momentarily connect the pump directly to a 12V battery. When you make the contact the pump should run. If it doesn't the pump is faulty and...
