First time buyer advice (Damp Vans/What to look out for)

Many forum posts could have been avoided if caravan manufacturers could assure the public their caravans were 100% free from damp issues, but that would be so far from the truth, even Pinocchio's nose would not be long enough. Sadly the reality is UK caravan manufacturers do know how to...

First time buyer advice (Damp Vans/What to look out for)

Especially for first time buyers, it makes a lot of sense to use a dealer, as this gives you some very important consumer rights if things do start to go wrong. But regardless of where you buy from you are correctly looking for potential problems, and the evidence of damp you have found...

    Bailey D4-2

It's so good to read of a consumer who does know of his rights, and is using them. And of a dealer who also seems to understand the law. I sure these factors will help to get you the outcome your entitled to. As Buckman has pointed out, if you have used finance to help purchase the caravan...

    Bailey D4-2

You need to decide if your prepared to live with a caravan that has resisted one repair, which within the law has happened within the first month of your ownership, and you are entitled to formally reject the caravan back to the seller (dealer not manufacturer) for a full refund backed...

    Volvo xc60

Not quite. the Park setting of an auto box locks the transmission. It does not apply the parking brake. As you say the "handbrake" is a totally different and separate system.

    Battery check

And Caravan chargers usually produce 13.8V a few do have a higher bulk charge stage at about 14.3V but a holding charge voltage of 13.8.

    Noseweight query

The purpose of noseload is to counter the natural forces that tend to try and lift the nose of the trailer when moving. None of these forces are constant, and each combination of tow vehicle and trailer will produce different degrees of the effect, so its very much a suck it and see...

    Leg locks

Anything that slows thieves down or makes the goods more difficult to handle or sell on, means they might choose an easier target and leave yours.

Site water fed into Water Barrel or directly into Caravan?

When these failures occured is not relevant to the risk of the potential of failure but clearly it is since the concept of a direct water feed through a pressure reducing valve was introduced which was in the 1990s, and I left the industry in 2000 so 3 (plus others from reports to the...

I seriously doubt if the Rear brake lights will be activated by the Parking Brake with or without the engine running. However auto hold might.

    Caravan bathroom door

Unfortunately the interiors of caravans are made of light weight materials, which also means they are more vulnerable to issues especially over time as the heat cycling can break down glue joints and even the fibrous structures of wood can weaken. Just bad luck I think.

Site water fed into Water Barrel or directly into Caravan?

I am personally aware of three caravans that suffered the failure of the pressure regulator, which the over pressured the caravans internal pipe work, and caused £K of damage. Other professionals in the trade have also reported similar failures. As I have been at pains to say, its...

    Volvo xc60

Conventionally the "Hand" brake is frequently called the parking brake, and technically the automatic "AutoHold" is not a parking brake but as the name suggests it simply hold the vehicle when its stationary, and should only be considered to be a temporary holding device similar to the...

    Failed Whale Pump

Most water pumps I have freed up were either debris inside the impeller housing, or the motor having run dry and slightly overheated and drawn water passed the shaft or wire seals and started to rust. If it was debris, if it was caught early enough ( like less than a few minuet or so)...

    Opinions on Starlink

Most caravan sites that provide WiFi do so under the proviso that guests do not use it for business working as excessive usage will use up the bandwidth for everyone. So if you need it for work you should provide your own connection. The advent of Elon Musks Starlink system now means you can...
