We eventually took the route suggested by Hutch, the D907. It was easy and no problem at all. The Cluses to Taninges route looked ok, just a couple of sharp bends, not very steep but not as easy as the the D907. Thanks Hutch.

Thank you to all. We did not take spare jockey wheel ( I was only thinking the actual wheel not the whole thing ) or hitch pads. We didn't need either. Our trip was a success and we stayed on sites in Holland, Belgium, France and Germany. We did not encounter any problems other than some sites...
