    Electricity usage

Many thanks for all the helpful suggestions. I can certainly do without the tv provided it doesn't rain every day. The suitcase type solar panel could be worthwhile.

    Electricity usage

I have been caravanning for several years and camping before that but have always had an electric hook-up and often other services. I'm contemplating booking a pitch at a small music festival but there is no electric. I can use gas for the fridge. cooking and hot water. Toilet is manual. It's...

Pull in for couple of hours, close to Hayling Island

Just thought of another option. Take the Buriton exit off the A3M just after Petersfield. Go straight over the next roundabout heading for Petersfield and before you get into the town there is a large layby on the right hand side. It's no distance of the bypass.

Pull in for couple of hours, close to Hayling Island

There is a reasonably decent layby just after Petersfield at Butser Hill on the A3 or I have seen caravans in the car park at Morrisons at Horndean. The exit is signed posted Emsworth B2149. You cross back over the A3M and Morrisons is on the right.

    Tyre age

I'm about to have new tyres fitted. There are lots of threads about when tyres should be replaced and the 5-7 year period. I understand the reasons for this but I wondered if the clock should start to run down from the date on which the new tyres are fitted rather than the age stamped on the...

    France 2022

Just as a matter of interest I can't recall knowing who owned or ran the site until we turned up. We booked the site because we liked the look of it and it's location.

    France 2022

The site is in France. How can it make any difference who owns/runs it? We have stayed at a site in France owned by a Dutch couple and another one run by a married couple. he is French with an English wife. As Ferrodo has said what difference can it make.

Another vote for Pors Peron. Lovely quiet beach in walking distance and great coastal path walks.

Overnight for caravan near Portsmouth Dock

It may be worth noting that the M27 from the junction with the M3 to the Fareham junction is subject to a 50mph speed limit until the completion of the works to make it a SMART motorway are completed which according to the signs is Spring 2022. If anyone stays at a site in the Southampton...

Whats your favourite site for Autumn.

Wareham Forest is certainly very nice. Funnily enough when we bought our caravan the dealer paid for us the spend 2 nights there when we collected it so we could try everything out.

Whats your favourite site for Autumn.

Any suggestions for sites open all year within say a 50 mile radius of the Portsmouth area. We like Fishery Creek on Hayling Island but it closes for the winter and regularly visit Lyntton Lawn in the New Forest but it would be nice to have options close to home for the winter. We tend to have...

    Winter covers

Beachball, thanks for the photo but can you confirm exactly what these are? I've used large bubble wrap before but they look much neater.

    Cable entry..

Look at marine cable entry glands. There are all shapes and sizes and designed for the marine environment so very effective.

    Isetta plus caravan

The Isetta had reverse gear. As far as I recall it had 4 forward gears and one reverse but changing gear was a bit of a lottery until you got used to it. The Messerschmitt was very antisocial as the passenger sat behind the driver: not at all beneficial when the passenger was a lady friend!
