    Another Caravan Theft

It is very sad indeed that you can not pull into a service area and go to the toilet/shop/cafe without having to leave someone to guard your caravan, even when fitted with a hitch lock/wheel clamp etc. It may be sensible to leave someone but in a sad way it is letting the criminal win.

    cheap 4x4

Hi my caravan weighs in at about 1250kg fully loaded, so is not overly heavy. I would be looking to spend

    cheap 4x4

Thanks Gilbert, I had not considered the Sorento because unlike the Santa Fe you cant get it with a 2.0L diesel. From what I can see on the web the only diesel is 2.5L. What sort of mpg do you get when driving solo?

    which club

I would say the Caravan Club. Was recently at a Caravan Club rally that was held at the same venue as a Caravan & Camping Club Rally. The C&CC held a Sunday Church service! Far too stuffy for my liking.

I don't know about long and short towbars, but avoid detachable. Just think about the safety issue, you would be towing over a 1000kg with something that you have to bolt on. Recipe for disaster. Twin electrics are needed to allow you car to charge the caravans battery and run its fridge...

    cheap 4x4

I will be changing my car in the next few months. As I am increasingly using the caravan for caravan club rallies which are often in fields etc I was considering getting a 4x4 rather than another family size car (currently drive a 2006 Mondeo). I don't want to pay big money and I don't want a...

    Lack of Towing Mirrors

I tow with a mark 3 Mondeo. I have towing mirrors, which I fit. However to be honest they make very very little difference to how much I can see to the rear of the van, and they are incredibly difficult to position to allow you to see even as much as you can with the car mirrors. I really...

    T V's

An inverter is not a good idea. At the Irish National CC rally at Easter the people in the van parked next to use set up a 19inch LCD TV up and used an inverter. Their battery was dead within a couple of hours. ANy current conversion is very inefficient and will multiply how much energy used...

    Fully serviced pitches

I bought 3m of waste pipe which was just a nice length, and if anything the water drained better than it usually does when it is into the waste hog. As it happens the site has been modernised since last year and we had a brand new electric/water/waste bollard with a light on top, very nice. I...

    Sat Nav Yes/No

Sat Navs are only really useful for finding specific addresses in areas that you are unfamiliar with. For example when I took the caravan to the CC Edinburgh site, my Sat Nav was a life saver, I doubt that I would ever have found the site without it. However I have never felt the need for one...

Ignore it or do something about it ?

At the Edinburgh CC site I found the one way system to be both illogical and damned inconvenient. For example when leaving the site if I had obeyed the one way system I would have had to tow my caravan over 6 speed ramps - something that should never be found anywhere where people will be...

    Michael Jackson has passed away

Sad indeed, but also it saddens me that of all the things that are going on in the world, one well past his best pop star's death gets all the attention! I've edited this post in order to remove a joke that is inappropriate within this topic under the circumstances. Parksy (Moderator)

    Ford Mondeo Electrics for Towbar

The Smart 7 Relay is a electronic switch box. Rather than the wires that carry power to your tails lights also having to power additional lights on the caravan, the power from them only activates a switch to tell the box to turn on the caravan lights. The box gets a direct power connection...
