I've towed 1700kg with a Mazda cx5 175ps AWD diesel automatic and, a 190ps Tiguan automatic AWD , and now a 2022 Kia Sportage 230ps hybrid.

I carry two 17kg bikes on my swift rear bike rack, it can carry 50kg from memory, the rack itself weighs around 10kg.

Nothing wrong with a clamp connection, just make sure both cables are secure by giving them both a tug.

If you have ever seen a "pad" it's just a bit of plastic, I would fit any replacement, you will soon see if they are not working correctly. Besides my service man checks them at every service, he's a mobile fitter.

The manual for the 2011 Valencia I owned clearly states you don't need a battery for the 12v supply.

You should still get 12 volt with no battery with that model, sounds like your charger isn't working, assuming it's getting mains power.
