Hi all,

We have a Luna LX2000 and have a problem with the 12v electrics, everything work fine when pluged into the mains, lights, fridge, sockets etc and the battery tester on the panel in the van (sorry not very technically minded) reads that the battery is full. When we unplug from the mains...nothing, nolghts, and no ready on the batter thingy in the van. We found a blown inline fuse from the battery into the van and replaced this but still nothing, we have plugged back into the mains to recharge the battery as it was only reading 11.87 volts but was wondering if a reading this low would stop everythng working or if there is anything else we should check..my husband is quite techincally minded and can't seem to get to the route of the problem, we don't use the van that often, so don't have much of a clue. Sorry its long winded, i've tried to find a wiring diagran of our van with no luck and the Lunar hand book that came with the van is useless, no disgrans or anything. thanks for any help given. Helen

Hi,

A battery displaying a voltage of under 12 volts means it's totally discharged.

Typically a fully charged battery should show 12.8 volts and lose about 0.2 volts for every 25% used - so 100% used is 12 volts or lower.

The charger in your caravan probably can't recharge a totally discharged battery - and so you need to remove the battery and charge it with a quality, multi-stage charger - check out the CTEK range.

I don't believe that the battery needs replacing just yet, but if it's left in this discharged state for any time - it will be irreparably damaged...

As it happens fixed this same problem on our van about 2hrs ago!

Our fuses are those 'bullet' shaped fuses and not for the first time the battery one was not allowing a connection, simply cleaned up the contacts and full voltage from the battery resumed.

memo, must find time to fit some decent fuse boxes this winter!
