We have had 14 months of not having a reliable fridge running on 12v and since we travel long distances this has become a real pain. It looks like the problem is insufficient power coming from the car to operate the car relay to power the fridge. When no auxillary electrical equipment is running on the car then it's OK (and of course it was always OK on test) but add a radiator fan, lights, a/c, etc and the available power drops to or below 13v - tripping the fridge supply relay in the car (and presume battery charging as well).
I'm now in the process of checking different relays and the car system. Has anyone had a similar experience and a cure? My car is a 2006 Volvo V70 T5, BUT only has a 60 amphr battery as standard. The fridge is a 77litre Dometic, so nothing outrageous. I'm still not ruling out a fault with the fridge but power checks point to the car problem.
The Belgium GP is coming up and desparately need my G&T (with ice) on arrival! (not to mention real English sausage of course)
