13 Core Cable

Was getting really frustrated with a huge length of twin leads plus adaptor to fit my cars 13 pin socket. I tried many places and sites to buy 13 core cable to rewire the van to match car but to no avail.

Then I thought why not just rmove the 13 pin plug from my adaptor and fit it to the N/S leads on the van? So this I did (and shortened them a bit too - does anyone actually need the full length?) and now I have a lovely neat solution of the perfect length!

Why not try it yourself?

I guess that with 13pin caravans now being supplied, 13 core cable maybe easier to come by!

Hi Andy,

Towsure sell 13 core cable, I rewired my van for exactly the same reasons as you. Now it's much easier, neater, and a more secure connection everytime.

Most places selling 13-core cable aren't selling full specification cable - it should have 5x 2.5mm2 cores and 8x 1.5mm cores.

Sargent sell full specification cable - Towsure don't.

Thanks for the info, you are absolutely right. I live quite close to Sargents at Beverley, so I will call in and purchase another length of cable to replace the stuff I got from Towsure. As you say 5 of cores should be 2.5mm for pins 9, 10, 11, & 13. Having said that I haven't had any electrical problems since changing over to the 13 pin system, including the fridge when towing. But for peace of mind I will replace the towsure cable just incase of any overheating problems in the future. Once again many thanks.

Pins 3, 9, 10, 11 and 13 should all be 2.5mm2 cable.

I bought a 3M length of 13 core cable from Sargents at Beverley and replaced the cable which I previously purchased from Towsure.

As you quite correctly informed me this cable has five 2.5mm dia core cables, which Towsure's doesn't.

As well as my mind being at ease regarding any overheating problems, I have now noticed a significance difference in the efficiency of the caravan fridge when towing.

So thanks for bringing this to my attention and I hope this information is helpful to anyone else who is considering or has already re-wired their van to the 13 core / one plug system.
