Hi,

I currently own a 1998 2.0ltr mondeo ghia and am looking to tow a 1997 abi prestige. The van has a max permissable weight of 1360kg and a user payload of 250kg. My car handbook says that i have a kerbweight of 1350- 1500 but does not give model specific info. I spoke to ford and they say that the mondeo has a max tow weight of 1500kg.

As this will be my forst caravan i just want to be carefull, has anyone towed with this car and at what weight was the caravan.

Also what weight does the average family load into the caravan, i.e would i ever get close to 1360kg. Any advice would be great

Paul , I am in a simular situation , with looking to buy a 2.0 Mondeo , to tow 1313 kgs.

As you have the car , fill it 3/4 up with fuel and go to your local weighbridge ( see web for nearest one ) they charge about

I used to tow a 1300mgw Abbey with a 1997 2.0 litre Mondeo Ghia hatch. It's kerbweight was 1332kgs, this was obtained from Ford, by giving them its VIN number. This is the only info they need, and will even tell you if its been involved in an accident and had genuine ford body panels re-fitted. Its a premium rate line you ring but the call only lasts about 2 minutes.

Unfortunately I don't have the el number anymore, but you may be able to get it from your handbook.
