Hello,

I was looking to possibly buy a 1999 ELDDIS HURRICANE caravan.
The seller has mentioned, when the van was bought from new, it was taken over to the south of France & remained in the same place until 2005. It was then brought back to England & has been used as a touring van ever since.

Is there anything I should be aware of to look at as the van was lying static for so long?

Cheers

Hi Millard
From what you've told us it would appear that although the caravan was sited in France it has been used as a tourer here in the UK for the past six or seven years so one would imagine that any issues arising from the caravan being static would have been sorted out by now.
The obvious safety checks should be carried out on lights, brakes, the hitch mechanism and ask if the tyres have been changed because although the tread pattern may look ok the sidewalls deteriorate after five or six years and blowouts or the shedding of the tread is a real possibility.
Ask to see any service history, receipts for parts or for work done and then inspect the caravan to see what condition it is in inside and out.
Click Here for a very comprehensive used caravan buyers guide, the tabs down the left hand side will reveal pretty much everything that you will need to know and to look out for to avoid wasting your hard earned cash on a shed.
Take a small torch with you to look inside bed boxes and lockers, damp or water ingress is the number 1 caravan killer so peel back the window rubbers slightly and look behind curtains for signs of black mould which is indicative of damp.
Good Luck, and if there's anything else that you want to know just ask, there are plenty of good used caravans but lots of old sheds so get a good un
