40+ and how to deal with it?

Need help!

I have found myself becoming more and more cynical (cylindrical as well) as time goes on. Some of my recent postings have shown this and I wondered why in big G's name did I write them? Is this an age thing, where the 40's have crept up and the knowledge that it's a slippery slope from there on, depressing me? Or is it because the diet I'm following doesn't allow alcohol and I'm feeling the effects of sobriety for the first time?

Any of the middle agers and above know the answer?

Lol don't fret about the big 40. Look at it in a positive light whereby the children are becoming of an age where they want their independance and not go with you on holidays - therefore far cheaper and more relaxing and also it will be like your old courting days getting to know one and another all over again. If needed, but I doubt it, you could contact Lord B for some of his Viagra as he doesn't seem to be using it theses days (gone off the boil). Remember that old saying life begins at forty well it is true in most repects. The only down side is in a few years time you will become concerned with elderly parents and looking after their needs. Don't get me wrong as my wife and self are looking after my mother in law as she is 87. Between this and the grandchildren at the age of 60 we are more tied now than ever. In conclusion I would say go for it, enjoy it and let your hair down while you can.

Lol, I know waht your'e feeling.

I have just been there.

They say have children when you're young, then they grow and you're still young to enjoy life.

Well, now mine are grown, the life I want isn't there anymore.

They lie, when you get there your to old and decrepid, to do anything much.

I realise that I am now what my parents were when I was 20 and hate it, (don't have any p's to look after) so It's all down to me, and what do I know..............Nothing I'm still struggeling to learn the same things.............

Hey Smiley that is a morbid outlook on life. My wife and I are now 60, both retired with grown up children who are independant and now enjoying ourselves in our own way. We do as I stated previously visit my mother in law at least once a week to check she is OK (will have to shoot her to get her to lie down). We now enjoy life at a steady pace and not the frantic pace of working life. I would suggest that you get your self a good stiff drink and rethink your future and enjoy your self while you are still fit and able - you're dead long enough.

I,m now 61 my wife is 57. Our children are 40 & 36 both with partners and off our hands so to speak. We now enjoy all sorts of things singly & together that we were unable to pursue when the kids were our responsibility, either because of time restrictions or money (We all now that one surely?)

Life really is what you make of it at any age. Please don't take this the wrong way, but you really do need be more positive.

I cannot understand why people dread getting to 40, or more.

I am 56, my wife is 58, both medically retired from our respective jobs, so on a relatively low income, but, despite the problems with our healt, love every minute of the time we have together.

I do not know where ihad time towork, ther are not enough hours in the day now, to do all the things we want to do.

We have both discovered new interests, together, and separately, an have the time to pursue these interests.

No more clock watching, no more rush hour travelling, no more unsociable hours at work, no more having to have holidays in school holiday time, with the added cost at those times.

There is a whole new world to explore out there, get out, look about you, see what you have been missing, and enjoy the time you have.

'Every man desires to live long; but no man would be old'.

Jonathan Swift 1667-1745.

I was dreading the big 40 but now is come and gone and I'm half way towards the 5 number, I don't think it's such a problem. Ok bits start to droop and the old eysight is suffering but hey, don't you think we get more confidence?

I don't think you should have completely cut out alcohol Lol, I'm very concerned. I suggest you go back to your previous levels again for a couple of weeks or so, then cut back gradually over a period of about 18 months.

Hope this helps.

Oh hello Roy

Em, oh, well I think I said I was 26 plus something. I've never been good at sums. That's why our budget at work is always wrong as I am the budget holder.

I just thought I'd better start telling the truth about myself otherwise people are gonna get a hell of a shock when they meet me at easter.

Hi Lord B

I do. I'm heavily involved in community safety, working in partnership with the police, youth offending teams, housing providers, social services, environmental health etc. That's why I get uptight when people think it's ok to drive at 200mph on the roads in the UK. I've recently been leading a series of workshops with teenage 'joy riders' regarding the consequences of stealing cars and driving dangerously.

I'm like Colin, finished work at an age that hopefully will let me have a few years of doing what I want before I pop my clogs. I'm fortunate, yes fortunate, that I had to finish rather than spend any more time working for the Ambulance Service and all the stress thats involved. No more 12 hour shifts or parked up in layby's 24/7. I no longer live on ant-acid tablets from gulping my food down in case we have a 999 call. I go to bed each night and get up what time I like. Friends and ex colleagues ask if I'm bored, I don't know boredom and the time flies by. The only downside is wishing your life away waiting to get back out in the caravan with my wife and dogs but I have plenty to do until then.

I've got two young sons (7&4) and share my birthday with the youngest. So on the 25th of this month he is going to be 5 and I'm going to be 48!!!.

Having kids late in life keeps you young............

I long for the time when he is off hands and we can come and go as we please, i still love time spent with my son and I am looking forward to a few weeks time when we go to the dominican republic for a week. I also love to spend time alone with my wife who just happens to be my best friend. Age is but a number,

just remember you dont stop playing because you get old, you get old because you stop playing

As I am just about to hit the mid 40 mark, I have two children 5 and 2 and have just bought my first van.

I thought that vans were so you could stop and take your afternoon nap in peace.

50 + and I still don't give a **** about the age. Moans and groans about Politico's, is just realistaion that you have heard all the same cr 1p recycled time and time again.

Never gonna let technology beat me, still pounding the streets and pushing the same weights as I was 20 years ago.

Dont't smoke, do pills or any other cr1p, and I don't do new age drivel. Just eat well and keep it real.

The music is a mix but heavy rock on the road keeps life current. If you don't rock you die inside.

My customers say I'm evil as if I don't like you or what you want I don't do the work, that's why I'm not rich.

CliveV you certainly know how to hit a man when he's down. As Max Boyce once stated our boys were not very well at the time. Like the terminator "We'll be back"

I think age is all in the mind - I know, some days you wake up feeling twenty five, the next day ninety five. Be thankful for every day, regardless of age - you never know what's around the corner. Me and OH are 50+, no children at home, please ourselves entirely, absolute bliss!!!

Just a bit of fun Colin! - I was cheering like mad last year at the resurgence of class rugby from the Welsh team!

One thing about the 6 Nations - it can all go pear-shaped very quickly for any one.

But what about the French (heh heh!) what happened there!
