Every year, for Summer holiday, we travel from Cumbria, heading south in search of good weather - a journey of over 300 miles. We look for a '5 star' site to make the 2 week break as cosseted as possible. The last 2 years have found us in Poole and Somerset. Next year we were planning to try and increase our chances of good weather by trying the SE corner of UK but the shortage of 5 star sites has been disappointing.

We are looking for a quiet site ( no clubhouse, swimming pool etc) with full facilities, for 2 adults with lots of places to visit, preferred area would be eg Sussex

Any ideas?

Noo then marra - I can recommend the Caravan Club Black Horse Caravan site just outside Folkestone, open all the year easily accessible off the motorway systems. Having lived in that area twice, now live further west, there is plenty to do and see, both inland and on the coast. There is a lot of history also around the area, WW2 in particluar. You can spend a day exploring Dover Castle and Canterbury will draw you back again and again, there is a C&CC site at Canterbury but I personally prefer The Black Horse. Lots of good pubs, can't comment on shopping as not my scene. If you feel adventurous, with Dover on the doorstep, a day trip(s) to France or Belgium (without caravan and car if necessary) is easily do-able; the last time we stayed on this site for any length of time we did a day trip to Brugges on the eurotunnel and a further day trip to Calais via the ferry. Guranteeing good weather is in the hands of Higher Authority in my opinion but if you do get the weather you couldn't be in a better area.
