Hello can anyone please recommend a good site on the IOW, near to Sandown or Shanklin or anywhere I suppose as the island is small but definatly near to a beach, and caters for families. Our kids love to make new freinds so a play area is essential. We have looked at Southland camping park which looks lovely. Any advice would be great. Just come back from CC site at Pembury near LLaneli Wales and had the best holiday we have ever had, thanks to the weather.

Bones, have a look at Whitecliff Bay, it is literally on the edge of Sandown, has its own access to the beach, or just a short walk to the main beach, which is all sand, unlike many of the Island beaches. The touring site is set away from the main site, where yo uhave quiet for the evenings, but the main site is an all singing/dancing site with club, pool, kids area etc.

Have just arrived back (yesterday) from The Orchards. Not so near to Shanklin but towards the quieter end of the Island. It's in a place called Newbridge which is about 10 mins drive from the most amazing beach you will come across over there. (Compton Bay) Parking all day costs

Bones, I agree with Emmerson, Southlands is a first class site and reasonably close to a large supermarket when you travel towards Shanklin.

Southlands or The Orchards are both excellent sites. Depends what you like but I did not like Whitecliff that much especially with its large holiday camp feel.

Hi, I can't recommend a good site I'm afraid, but after just returning from a week on IOW I can advise you NOT to go to Landguard Camping (in between Shanklin/Sandown). The site was awful - we were 3 - 4 feet away from the next caravan on one side and on the other we had about 2 feet from our awning to the car - then about 1 foot to get out of car due to line of trees. I understand it was August bankholiday but it was ridiculous. We have a crawling baby and when on site had to keep him locked in awning as it was not safe to let him out due to speeding cars round the site! IOW was fantastic - just a bad choice of site.

We spent the last week of the kids summer hols at Adgestone near Sandown, it has 2 play areas and a heated swimming pool, great site, I would whole heartedly recommend it, the pitch sizes were generous too. My kids thouroughly enjoyed it, we went on Shanklin beach were my eldest son (14) Hired a surf board and loved it, this beach offers beach huts for hire at

How I agree with Sara about Landguard, very cramped and very, very noisy during the early hours with inconsiderate fellow caravanners returning to their vans during the early hours after visiting the club on the adjoining site. We were pitches close to the toilet / shower blocks where kids congregate at all hours - then a group of local youths came onto the site with a ghetto blaster around 11.00pm the owner sent them away.

Booked at Southlands for next year after visiting during the week - a total contrast.
