Abbey 'dealer special' tyre pressures?

Not very useful, these handbooks! No mention of tyre pressures anywhere, not even that you should check them!

So, any ideas?

It's a 2004 Abbey Archway Royale 520 (single axle, 4 berth, end washroom), which may or may not be the same as a 2004 Abbey Vogue 520. It's a MIRO of 1250kg, and an MTPLM of 1500kg. It's got 5 spoke alloy wheels, and the tyres are marked as follows:

Hankook RA08 Radial 175R14C 99/980 65psi.

Obviously 65psi relates to their maximum allowable pressure, but what should I be running them at?

Load Index 99, as your markings indicate, allows 775kg per tyre, 1550 per pair. As your MTPLM is 1500 you need 63psi on a proportional basis.

The tyre industry recommends that tyres should be rated at 110% of the maximum axle load for safety. The caravan industry ignored this recommendation until recently. When you replace the tyres get 101 Load Index to get the safety margin, that may mean a different size of tyre.

Hi Dale

There should be a small metal decal low down on the nearside of the van (on the outside!) - usually by the door - and it has lots of information punched onto it. Your tyre pressures are on this.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for that - just checked our service sheet from last month and they've been set at 61psi (by the supplying dealer).

If you need help with this please send us an email to enquiries@swiftleisure.co.uk. We will need the last 6 digits of your chassis number to give you accurate information.

I've only been a member of this forum for a short while , in that time I have noticed several replies from SWIFT especially KATH . I think it is marvelous that a main manufacturer ( if not THE main ) has the wisdom , time , information and respect to give us the comments and help which most manufacturers think is above them . So please dont ever pull SWIFT down in front of me . Pull the others down until they respond as good as KATH does . By the way I have nothing to do with SWIFT GROUP either by employment or ownership , as I have a beautiful caravan build by a manufacturer that swift eventually took over . Good on ya KATH please keep up the magic work you do nevermind the ungrateful so and soes that harp on . keep smiling and be happy --- STEVE .
