Abbey freestyle 500 pulsating pump

I have a problem with the FLOJET R3426-500 pumped water system pulsating rapidly when the tap is used on the shower room sink. We have retuned the caravan to Lowdhams in Reading with this fault, they checked the system and tried all the known issues and solutions from the sheet supplied by Truma.

Adjusting the pressure switch.

This has not stoped the problem only moved it to a different pressure.

Aerator.

The aerator has been removed and the problem is still there.

The Flowjet delivers 5.3 litres per minute and has a shut off pressure of 20 psi, the pipe work is constructed of solid nylon pipe that has no elasticity, so that the stored pressure is delivered instantly to the tap. If the tap is not fully opened instantly, the pump is able to reach the 20 psi required to operate the built in pressure switch within 0.5 of a second. This three chamber diaphragm pump is not designed to operate at this stop/start rate and if we open the tap fully to reduce the pulsation we are splashed by the hard flow rate in to the bowl.

I have contacted Flojet who have sent me the specification data sheets for the R3426-500 and under there troubleshooting section for" Pulsating flow" they state restricted pump delivery, so if you restrict the flow through the tap it will pulsate rapidly.

I have contacted Swift leisure about this problem and after two e-mails over one month I have been given this reply:-

Thank you for your email, please accept my apologies for the delay in responding.

As discussed I passed your concerns through to our Technical Team who have advised that the information we have provided should resolve the issue you have reported, for any further assistance we would recommend that you contact Truma directly on 01283 586020.

The information was the same as Trumas !

This I back to where we started with the problem, is there a known fix for this problem.

Thanks Colin

We have the same pump and exactly the same problem on our Sterling Searcher. We eventually, after dealer tried everything, had a visit from Truma who, after failing to get anywhere with adjusting the pump, fitted a new one (exactly the same).

This seemed ok, but on our recent 3 week trip, within a couple of days it deteriorated. It is better than before, the pulsing is at longer intervals, but the pump still switches off with a very loud clunk.

We believe there is a fix......we need an accumulator fitted, like some other Swift Group vans have (and our brochure said we would have), we are just waiting for someone to realise the fact.

If Lowdhams follow the trouble shooting guide, if all else fails then it tells them to change the pump as it must be faulty. Do you want me to do something? If so send me an email, kpowell@swiftleisure.co.uk
