Sorry posted this in Equipment & Accessories then realised it should have been here!

We have a new (puchased November) Abbey Spectrum 418. While away at Easter the mains electric on site kept tripping. When this happened we ended up in complete darkness as the control panel switched off completely so the 12v supply also went off. We had to switch the panel back on manually .. not easy in total darkness. Our dealer has said this appears to be normal for the 'new' 'improved' electronic panel but this seems strange to us. Anyone else have the same type of panel in a new Swift made van with the same problem - better still anyone have a solution ?

We have the Spectrum 535 and lost site electrics for a full ngh while away at easter, the van automatically switched to 12v with no need to touch the control panel. May be worth an e-mail to Swift to confirm how the control panel works when mains power is lost.

Thanks Richard. We didn't think it was right but the dealer seems to think it is! We will probably contact Swift and see what they say.

Had a similar issue with our new Abbey 416 - lost mains ac but the panel switched to 12v straightaway. Only realised it when the fridge light had started to flash and wondered what was happening to it! Nearly banjaxxed the battery!!

Thanks John - looks like we have a problem - hubby will check the battery at the weekend to make sure it is charging properly then we will go back to dealer or Swife.

We have the same panel and it does some strange things at times

We had a similar thing but I decided that the panel 12V caravan battery must have already been switched off.

When I switched it back on and then switched the charger on and off the same thing didn't happen

That is the lights stayed on with the charger switched off

Sometimes if you go through the mode switch on the panel it will say that the caravan battery is switched off

This could be what happened in your case but you only found out when the mains cut out and with it the charger

Thanks for this - hubby didn't know that the battery could be actually switched off. He was thinking that the battery was flat but will double check at the weekend to confirm.

Thanks again for all the help - will let you know the outcome.

This sounds like an issue that we are aware of, when power to the charger is switched off, a surge passes to the fusebox, which then thinks the tow vehicle engine has started and isolates all circuits in the van.

There is a fix. If you contact us on enquiries@swiftleisure.co.uk or telephone us on 01482 875740 we can help.

Please tell my people about this message and then they will know what information to give you

Regards

Hi

Just want to record my sincere thanks to all at Swift for solving this problem for us. Our dealer had said this was normal but Kath picked up the problem on the forum and recognised it as something Swift were aware of.

We contacted Lynsey and have received a modification we can fit ourselves to the lead that goes to the charger. Problem solved - well done Swift. Again this proves the value of manufacturers, in particular Swift, monitoring this forum. If only all manufacturers showed as much interest in their 'customers'.
