Spent ages trying to get the Status 315 aerial on my Bailey ranger to work today but no luck! Is there a set procedure to go through to identify what the problem is?

Is there such a thing as a signal strength Meyer that I can use to check the signal at various points?

This signal meter can be used more so when you have a directional aerial like this one or just an ordinary house type one.

I fitted a status 530 five years ago before I went down the satellite route & still use both most of the time.

Hi Sprocket,
You may well be correct but surely the existing unit/ installation should be checked before it is discarded.
Rgds

If it was working ok last time out, I think that the only thing that you can check is the power supply with a multimeter & the coax cable ends just to make sure that there is no fraying wires...

This is a new (to us) van and so I don't know if the aerial worked OK before or not. Think I will try the mater to see if any signal is getting through or not

I had a bailey caravan where I had the same problem directional roof aerial not working.
Always switch the amplifier on should get a red light to say the 12 volt supply to the amplifier is working.
Now I tested my aerial by removing the input lead from the aerial lead that goes into the amplifier, connected it to a directional signal device(which you can purchase from a Good dealer) turning the aerial around found 4 green lights which proved the aerial was okay.
The fault was behind the aerial connection socket inside the caravan , the screws holding the sockets remove the two plastic bungs which cover the holding screws, I gently pulled the socket cover away from the socket , what was exposed was that the middle copper wire of the aerial had come away from the internal connection, managed to get a bit more TV aerial through the socket to enable me to reconnect the copper wire , Switched the 12 volt supply back on, tested the aerial via the internal reconnected socket to the wall , and got the 4 green lights connected telly to socket picture perfect.
Trust this is of some help Royston

Hi, tried the aerial in the middle of a field this weekend and it worked perfectly, we were able to pick up 95 channels!

Looks like!e it was the poor signal at home that was to blame

On every new caravan I've ever had that was fitted with an antenna, one or more of the coax connections was terminated incorrectly. First thing I would do would be to check these connections especially the more modern type (I believed called F type) where the centre conductor is not clamped with a cross screw.

Pre despatch inspection at factory ? Dealer PDI ?? No, leave it to the customer to fix as with too many other things.
