Hello all, I have managed to remove the old friction pads as per instructions, on replacing with new ones, one side has clicked back in and is fine, the other side just drops back out again and does not seem to hold in place, ie, if I hit the side of the hitch head the friction pad moves and falls back out! The instruction book makes reference to washers, but there was none present when I removed the old ones. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Allan changed mine last night,
Take a peek at this link down in the bottom corner you will see two "O" rings, these are fitted to the pads
If you look insde the hitch head you can just make out a round groove where they sit, Perhaps shine a torch in there
I found it easier to put the O rings in the slots first with a small screwdriver making sure you dont damage them then replace the pads, bit of a pig of a job lining up the O rings and you will loose your patience

Then the pads just pop back in
Just a thought as one has fitted your van it may have the O ring in place and when you pulled the other out it may have rolled away
sometimes they come out and sometimes they dont.
Hope this helps

Thanks for that Kev, I have had the right hand side one in and out three times with no problems, but the left hand side one just drops back out every time.
On closer inspection on the ground I found a disintegrated O ring! So I took the side handle off the Alko by removing the three torx screws, but was still none the wiser, so in my ignorance I found an O ring in the garage, placed it on the shaft of the pad,and yes it would not go back into the head, so I cheated and used the vice :( don't drop out now lol, guess what I will be doing tomorrow!
Anoying thing is it does not mention the O rings in the instruction manuel, oh well you live and learn.

Once again thanks for helping out Kev. Ps, down your neck of the woods at the end of next week, hence the pad change.
