Alko ATC not working

Hi.
I have a 2012 Lunar Lexon. Had it from new and it came with ATC fitted. It has worked brilliantly for the past 14 months. Last week we towed down to Devon no probs. When I came to hitch the van up for the return journey the ATC was dead. No whirring noise no LED lights. Nothing. I was able to tow home without the ATC activating. I've had the car 13 pin plug checked by a towbar specialist who says there is no fault on the car. Has anyone else had similar problems?

I have contacted the dealer who wants me to check the multiplug connections before we take it further( its a 120 mile drive back to the dealer)

Any help appreciated.

hi len,
not had much to do with the Alko ATC but from your description it does sound like an electrical continuity problem, if the car plug is ok, it must be at the van end or the plug (as suggested) have a look to see if there is a fuse on the system just after the plug, or (if the van was built with ATC there might be a fuse in the main box of the van.

It will probably be cheaper overall to get an approved mobile fitter to check the caravan than to take it 120 miles to the dealer plus return trip and time. Have a word with the dealer about this and ask whether they are willing to pay some or all of the bill. Only if fitter advises of an expensive repair take it to dealer.
When we had this issue on our 2011 Lunar, it was the 13pin socket on the caravan that was faulty as it has twisted in the housing. We also had to tow back without ATC operating.

Hi Len,
There must be a fuse somewhere on the caravan feeding the ATC. If it's not in your literature that came with the van the dealer should be able to tell you where it's located. Failing that, speak to Lunar.

Regards

Thanks for the replies and advice. Just to update you. I've checked the multiplugs as requested by the dealer and they seem fine to me. I've plugged my car into my mates caravan and his ATC fired up straight away-( dealer requested this as well) so the problem is definitely on the van. I've spoken to the dealer again who suggests leaving it plugged into the car for 12 hours to clear the memory. I thought this problem was indicated by a solid red LED. Dealer agrees with me but asked me to try it any way.

I've taken the 13 pin plug apart and can't see any obvious loose wires. The only fuses I can see are the ones in the consumer unit and none of these are labelled for ATC. I've checked the ones that I think could relate to the ATC and they are all fine.

I spoke to Alko today who confirm its a power supply problem. They have suggested I plug my van into my mates car to see if the ATC fires up - eliminating the problem being in the 13 pin plug. This has confused me a little as I don't see how this would help. They can send an engineer out but if the problem is not related to the ATC there will be a charge of around £65.

I'll let you all know how this is resolved.

Do the caravan interior lamps work when the van is plugged into the car with the engine and ignition turned off? I ask that because the ATC is connected in series with the caravan live feed wire. So if the car can power the lamps it means that power is going through the ATC.
Check the return from the ATC to the plug.
