Alko hitch lock keys

Hi folks,

Our caravan is fitted with a Alko TYP 1 – ETI hitch lock, but we only have one key and if it got lost or broken for what ever reason we are up a gum tree.
I went to a large locksmiths today expecting them to be able to cut a spare key, but no such luck, they couldn’t even find the appropriate correct shaped key to order one in their catalogues. So must be a special made for Alko.
So any one know where I can go to get another key as I don’t fancy paying out a lot of money for another hitch lock when this one is fine and in excellent condition.

Many thanks.
Ian.

Hi Sproket,

Thanks for your reply and taking the trouble to put the links up of 3 possibilities, sadly none of which are the type on my hitch lock. The barrel is much bigger and an oval shape. Is it possible to post photos on the forum, as I could take a photo which would show the type used.
Thanks for your help.
Regards,
Ian.

Thanks Sproket hope I have done this right, new thing to me doing this, but hopefully you can see waht sort of lock is on my hitchlock. Its held in the plate by 2 small Allen csk screws, so it never comes out completly only the cnetre portion moves in and out to lock it in place.
Regards,
Ian.

Hi earlyriser and Sproket,

Thank you both for your help, you both have had better luck than me in finding Alko’s web site which didn’t show up when I googled them.
So I will contact them to see if a replacement key is available and also about a complete lock, as this looks the same as my lock, well spotted Sproket and if push comes to shove, then it will be a new lock, although a bit pricey compared with just a new key. I went to a very large locksmiths and they couldn’t even match the key in any of their catalogues, so they could order one and cut a new key.
Thanks for your help both.
Regards,
Ian.

Hi Surfer,

Thanks for that, nice to know you managed to get one cut, so it is possible. Will have a look around who else in local, before I go hog wild speeding £35 on a new lock.

Regards,
Ian.
