Alko hitch problem

I'm having more and more problems getting the van to release from the car. I've tried moving forward slightly to uncompress it, moving back, moving it around etc and it still insists on lifting the car as I wind up the jockey wheel. It will eventually release but I feel it's getting more difficult with each trip.Do I need a new Alko ball?

I sometimes have this problem. The secret is I think to try and make sure the car and caravan are exactly on the same plane. Otherwise a press down on the boot lid usually solves the problem. Ken

We have a similar problem which I originally put down to having a Freelander which has a high towbar, but since moving to the mondeo we still have some problems but not as bad to be honest.

We've discovered unhitching is a two 'man' operation, one to hold the black handle up (firmly and constantly held in the upper most position) and one to raise the jockey wheel, works well. If I see the rear of the car start to rise a quick bounce of the rear of the car helps it along.

It is frustrating, but works better if there are two involved

Thanks Ken...I've looked back and found some other suggestions. It seems quite common. My friend had to take his complete outfit to his local dealer where they hammered it with rubber malletts! (Then presumably put it back onto the car again)
