Hiya, we had a 2004 Amethyst, but downsized end of last year, we liked everything about the van except the L shaped lounge, we could just not get comfortable, so we decieded to downsize, we bought a Coachman Amara, with the bench seats, the origanal idea's seem to work the best, I don't like the fixed bed either they take up too much living space.if you have any other questions just ask.

I agree about the 'L' shape lounge. We had one because it looked like you had more room. What an expensive mistake!

Both cannot put their feet up at the same time. Nowhere to put the table when not in use and if you want the bed out such a fiddle.

The bench seating is much the best as there is the small table which we use all the time. Never taken the packing off the big table in our Sterling Explorer

Hi

We had a 2004 Eccles Amethyst and traded for a 2004 Elite Explorer in Jan. We loved the Amethyst and particularly miss the L Shape although parallel seats have their place. Our biggest problem was that our son used the bunk all the time so we left it up which meant that the rear seats could not be properly used as it is only designed to operate in bed format once the bunk is up.

The washroom was a boon of space use what with the fully enclosed shower cubicle.

We wanted fixed bed so we cahnged but the Amethyst was great.

Rachel,

by the way we have the caravan club mag every month and this month included an artical on all 2006 Swift tourers, including sterling now caming with a six year bodyshell integrity guarantee in addition to the three year warranty, we intend checking this out when we collect ours.

also some insurance companys do not reconising the new al-ko secure wheel lock as is standered on the new sterling caravan this new device did not meet its requirements and therefore your caravan will not be covered when it is fitted, check you insurance policy! ours is ok.

hi diana, sorry i havent got back to you we have had a change of plan with the caravan we have cancelled it for this year because we are getting it later that expected we have had to cancel 2 trips away one for this weekend and next weekend and when we worked it out we only were able to go away another 3 maybe 4 times this year. we had already booked our main holiday for this year before we had even considered a caravan as my sis is getting married in florida. so july we are going for 2 weeks and my husband hasnt got any holidays left after that so we thought it would be better to do it next year as we would be able to go away loads of times. good luck with yours and hope it comes in very soon for you, nice talking to you Rachel x

hi Rachel,

sad to hear you have had to cancelle the van, it seems to be the done thing with caravan dealers they dont always deliver on time, this is why we have held on to our old one untill the swap

my siter's friends have picked up thier van this morning, but it was suppost to have been ready by the 24th feb.

Why dont you have a look at the private market there are lots of second hand vans out there for sale. you can sum time pick up a good bargin with all the extras included in the price. our first van was a two birth 1990 eldis and we had lots of fun in it. you should try geting four adults and two kids in a two birth thank god for awnings, we sold it on when we had our bigger van. have a fab summer and enjoy the wedding my daugther got wed in Cyprus and we all had a brilliant time.

all the best Diana.

Well it takes all sorts...We would never consider a van without an L front! Room for all to stretch legs, less cramped feel, you can face the telly from all positions - not eyes left and eyes right and you dont have to take it in turns to stand up!! You get a proper space for the telly, without it blocking a window and its great for telly in bed.

Anyway we must be wrong cos look how many L fronts there are by comparison.....the amethyst is a great van enjoy!

hi rachal

don't know if you are still looking in on this site since you decided not to go ahead with the purchase of your caravan. but thought i would let you know we have collected our caravan from barry caravans on sat 27th some two months after the date promised, well pleased with the caravan but will never go back to barry caravans again, they sold use a poor quality secondhand caravan first time around then could not keep to the supply date second time around bye for now
