Aquaroll on service pitch

Am making up my filling kit, drilled spare cap and fitted ball valve. As we dont use van water for drinking is it essential to use the drinking water quality hose,if so I have found one on Fleabay for about £18.00inc P&P,is that as good as I'll get.

Hello Dave,

I am not certain about this but if you are connecting a water storage system to the mains supply, the WRC requires the connected components to be of an approved quality - i.e. food grade.

This is because if the mains supply were to loose pressure and start to suck water from the store back into the mains pipework it must not allow the mains to become contaminated. legionella etc.

Most external taps these days will have double check valves fitted to prevent reversed flow, but I seem to recall that despite these the WRC still look to keep the possibility of contamination to a minimum.

I believe all service pitches on CC sites now have a non return valve at the tap to prevent soiled water going back in to the system.

Because the water is static for extended periods in the hose and exposed to sunlight warming it would be unwise to use non food quality hose pipe. It is about as well designed for leaching out the hose as can be imagined.

Whilst you wisely don't drink the water having plastisier contamination in the system is best avoided as the water is used for washing up showering etc.
