Are the mods asleep today?

Are they still recovering from a Xmas hangover? I have noticed that some, jewellery company has placed dozens of ads all over the place. Surely Haymarket have systems in place like many other forums to prevent repeat posts. Hopefully a mod when they wake up will delete all these nonsensical ads.

Thanks for alerting us
Having spent time away from the family and here on the computer on both Christmas Day and Boxing Day banning spam membership accounts and deleting spam posts about insurance, pharmaceutical items and Eastern European ladies of ill repute the mods are not asleep but perhaps spending time with irate spouses instead of working voluntarily.
This just goes to show what would happen if the mods didn't continue busily working behind the scenes getting rid of the army of spam merchants who try to gain access to the website 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
There is supposed to be a system awaiting approval which may help if Haymarket ever get round to installing it but since the new website started we get over 50 spammers every day which we have to manually check and then delete.

I can't be certain of course but an invite to 'meet sexy lady for fun times' might impinge on the reputation of the aforementioned lady under some circumstances, a meeting with Lord Braykewynde for example. (for research purposes to help with his thesis).

Latest post is an advert for motorhome hire! What is going on?
All that's going on is that very occasionally moderators take a break away from the computer to resume normal family life.
This means that we are not on duty 24 hours a day so every so often one of the thousands of spammers who attempt to gain access to the forum slips through and manages to post some sort of content onto the forum or any other part of the website.
The main thing to remember is never to click on any of the links because this might lead to keylogger being placed on your computer hard drive which could potentially reveal private information to criminals.
Thank you for alerting us to the presence of spam, the advert has been deleted and the membership of the spam merchant blocked.
If any adverts appear which we haven't seen please let us know so that we can deal with them, during holiday periods and more especially over the Christmas / New Year period family commitments take precedence over forum moderating so we might miss one occasionally.

I met my chum Lord Hezza in the Upper House today. He tells me that next year he is doubling the moddyships salary to a years subscription to PCv AND a Fenwicks Caravan Cleaning kit. For his generosity he will expect the mods to forego family commitments and moddy on bank holidays

We moddy on Bank Holidays anyway Lord B and risk the spousal wrath even though we haven't had last months mag yet. They should give the PCv magazine to the sammers to deliver because they never have a day off .

Just a PC mag would be nice,,not all that bothered about cleaning stuff...lol

The cleaning stuff wasn't meant for you. It was to placate your other half and to stop her moaning about you spending too much time on the puter. Then she wouldn't notice how long you were online because she would be doing what females were put on this earth for, washing and polishing

Now goes and sits back in the naughty corner with crash helmet on

I was referring to all these spam merchants attacking the forum! Most forums when you register send an email to your email address and then require that to complete registeration you click on a link in an email sent to you to confirm email address and verify your identity. Simple but it keeps spam merchants at bay to a degree.

Every time I log on to this site I am getting messages about site problems and the site closes down with tab recovered pop up and message to Microsoft

I wonder if its the spamming that is affecting it
I tried to complete the survey on towcars but on Internet Explorer the form was/is missing and only by logging on via Firefox could I see the boxes to complete
i wonder again if its being seen as Spam
I still don't get anything in the boxes under "Comment" but know that the smilies are next to Paragraph

There are several systems available which would deter the majority of the high number of spam attempts including the email system that you mentioned. I've tried to make the technical department aware of the scale of the problem and I'm now hoping that they will utilise some sort of system to at least stop automated repeated attempts.

Hi All
Now lay off poor old Parksy not only does he have to keep her indoors happy but he also has to verify the east european young ladies to make sure that they are OK for the rest of us.
Poor Bloke!!
Now if Lord B was a gentleman he would offer to take on the task of vetting the young ladies.
As for the rest of the spam well who cares anyway.
How's that Parksy.
Have a Happy New Year
Regards
Reg

Thanks Reg
I'm not sure if Lord B would be suitably qualified for the vetting of young ladies job though

He might not have the necessary experience

I'll have you know I give my chambermaids, milkmaids, stablemaids etc. a vigorous going over before employing them.
I must admit I wouldn't mind giving Dannii in the My ? advert a good vetting. She had me drooling in my oats this morning

I think that you mods are taking the wrong approach. By working your socks off, 24/7 including bank holidays, keeping the spam merchants at bay; there is zero motivation for Hezza and his minions to expend time and money on anti spam software. I think that you should work less hard, let the forum clog up with spam and then see if you get somewhere. After all it is complaints not compliments that get organisations off their corporate backside. Sad but true.

There was supposed to be some software installed after it was tried out on one of the other Haymarket websites but if it was installed on this website it doesn't work.

As an ex-Mod I must, even though belatedly, jump to the defence of my colleagues. If they are / were asleep today (which I very much doubt) then they thoroughly deserve their rest. They try to keep a reasonable standard on this site just for the love of it and it is certainly no part of the remit to protect the sensitive feelings (!) of the minority in non-caravanning matters.

We - and I can now include myself in the collective - are fortunate to have their services and continued good humour. Most contibutors recognise this and contibute in the same vein but inevitably there is a minority who try to take advantage.
I had meant this to be light hearted which clearly it is not, but I would ask the many whether they would want to do the job themselves, and if not, perhaps to refrain from posting such as that which started this thread.
I've said my bit and will now shut up, doubtless in the opinion of many, not before time.
