At-Co towing hookup

Hi all,

I have not long changed my car and on the van is an At-Co tow coupling, but on the car is I think an ordinary 50mm ball.

I have not towed with the new car yet only about 3 feet just to see if it fitted okay.

What I would like to know is will it be alright to tow the van with this setup or will it not be a good idea and get it changed.

I must also admit I can not tell if the car has a At-Co ball on it as they all look the same to me.

I had better apologize as well if I have got the name wrong.

If your van has an Al_Ko hitch with built in friction stabiliser then you will need a new towball, the Al-Ko extended neck one.

The standard 50mm short neck towball does not allow proper movement of the hitch around the ball.

How do I tell if my car has this fitted as when I hooked up it went on okay, is there a name printed on the ball.

All towballs are 50mm, but the distance the ball is set away from th ecar is the important point, as well as the narrower part around the actual ball.

Ha Ha I see the light now, the picture is the same as on my old car, it has jogged my memory.

Will have a good look at the new car in the morning.

it should have alko stamped on it they are also known as swan necks due to theway they stick out from car as parksy said to give a clean gap from bumper and hitch on turning.

No they are not.
