Hello Nigel

As promised I am reporting back after a weekend at the Centenary Club Site. The awning is in the garage drying out so here goes..

The site is fairly level with 4 pitching areas, 3 have hardstandings and some full service pitches, and the other area is grass. There are 2 shower blocks and none of the pitches seem far away from the blocks because there are walkways between the areas. We were on the grass area and the ground is quite hard, we used our rock pegs as there were quite a lot of stones beneath the surface.

There is a large dog walk although we didn't use it, if you go out of the site and turn left, you will come to the open forest after about 400 yards, if you prefer to drive there is a small car parking area. You can walk for miles if you wish and we saw no restriction signs.

With regard to your request for a hostelry,,,,, not such good news as although there are about 6 or 7 attarctive pubs in the area, notably the Woodcutters and 3 Tuns in Bransgore, I would not consider them within walking distance. If you go along the A35 westwards there is a Toby Carvery and a Harvester within about 5 mins drive and the nearest large supermarket is Sainsburys just on the outskirts of Christchurch. The site was virtually full all weekend and wardens were helpful even though we had to be off by 12 noon. There is a chip van calls 2 nights a week and a mini market stall near reception 1 day a week as well. We would definately go back perhaps later in the year when the children are at school. Hope this is of help to you. Keith

Hello Keith,

We were in the same field as you then, I think it was called Liberator (for those who don't know it, there is a theme based upon aeroplane types that flew from the second world war airfield where the site is). I was lucky and took the awning down in the dry on Monday evening - but I am only just dry myself after the soaking while otherwise packing up on Tuesday.

It is a nice site and it will be even better in a few years time when the trees and shrubs have matured a bit.

Nigel, just to add to Keith's accurate description of the site - there are a few fully serviced pitches, interestingly placed in the least attractive area of the site right next to the entrance. The main toilet block is cunningly built with duplicate areas for both genders so that at peak times it has double capacity and you can always find an open part of the block even when the wardens have closed bits for cleaning.

The site shop has rather more of a range of goods than most CC sites and in particular the bread and pastry items are very tempting.

Have a good time.

Sorry, I forgot to say that the advertised wi-fi does not work. I don't know whether that was a temporary problem or something more permanent.

Also forgot to say that the whole area is riddled with terrific walks for humans and dogs. There are a few areas of the forest that you are required to keep them on a lead but nothing that would spoil your enjoyment. As you would expect, there are many local publications that show walks though I prefer to just use the OS 25,000 series.

Thank you for your report on the New forest it sounds great, one thing Mike we have booked a service pitch a little concerned that they are near the entrance, was their any in more scenic area's, if not may cancel them and go for standard pitch.

Once again thank you for the info its great that people like your selves can take the trouble to report back to forum members.

Regards

Hi.

Have stayed at this site several times since it opened and the WIFI has never worked properly. I think the wardens have taken it on themselves to stop it because of the annoyed customers who bouught the vouchers only to find it did not work and then had to complain to the company who manage it.

Hello Nigel,

If you have a look at the CC website you can look at a plan of the site layout

http://www.caravanclub.co.uk/media/367459/New Forest (plan).pdf
You will see the serviced pitches marked with an S - there are ten of them. They look on the plan as if they have more room than other pitches, this is not the case - there are grass pitches between them. Last weeken with the site almost full, every one of those pitches was in use.

I suggest you keep your serviced pitch booking and when you get there park in the huge late arrivals area and ask the wardens if you can have a walk around the site. Then you can decide whether to trade off a nicer looking pitch for the water services convenience. As long as you do this before booking in you will not have to pay for the extra service. We effectively did this because we arrived after friends who had not booked a serviced pitch so we chose to stay near them and give up the serviced pitch we had booked.

Cheers

Thanks Mike, we pick up a new Luna Clubman tomorrow with the new water service inlet, the wife thinks a service pitch would be better for showering for the longer stays but if it means the pitches are not up to much l will do what you say and have gander before we pays the money.

We had a service pitch at Chatsworth and wasn't impressed with the size we were allocated so it may mean that l will have to keep filling the aquarole every day, what we guys do to appease the ones we love, l my self will use the showering facilities provided.

Thanks again for the info.
