Hello, I have just purchased an Avondale eagle yesterday. Today I went to sanitise the water system, but as the system started to fill everything stopped. All other electrical systems work apart from the Zig water control panel. I've checked all fuses and tested the circuits and all are ok.
It appears that the circuit board has given up the ghost on the control panel.
Can I by -pass the control panel? and if so, will it be safe with the water heater ?
We were going away next weekend, I am absolutely gutted.
I've tried all different places to try and get a control panel, but it appears they are obsolete.
Many thanks
Steve

ps, I live in Aberdare, South Wales.

Hello, I have just purchased a 2003 Avondale eagle yesterday. Today I started to sterilize the water system when it all stopped working. All the other electrical functions work ok apart from the Zig water control panel. I have checked all fuses and connections and it appears that the circuit board has given up the ghost on the control panel. I've searched to try and get one but they appear to be obsolete. My question is, can I by-pass that control box ? We were going away next weekend, I am gutted.
If that box was by passed would I be able to still use water heater ? would the pump stop when taps were turned off ?
Sorry for all the questions, but I am at a loss as to where to go next !!
many thanks,
Steve.

Sorry to hear of your problem. There are companies that repair pcb panels. Honest Johns website lists some. Also one electrical specialist has been recommended on this Forum in the context of caravan charging units and other electrics. I think they are called Apuljack. Try a search. I will too.

PS it is Apuljack Engineering at Axbridge. They are highly regarded on a number of caravan forums.

This site appears to have wiring diagrams for all Zig units - any chance you could get yours repaired locally?

Also some caravan breakers may have stocks of used models. Your ptofile doesn't say where you live, and your post doesn't specify the model - surprisingly a few came up on ebay, so you may yet have some luck!

I can't help directly with the Zig control panel, but I can put your mind at rest about the water heater.

Provided the water heater was filled before the pump stopped working, then it will remain full until you open the drain valves. To get water out of the heater you have to be able to push cold water in, if the pump has stopped working no cold water can be pushed into the heater, so no hot can be expelled - There is one exception, if the tank is filled with cold water, and the heater is turned on, as the water heats it will slightly self pressurise the tank, so when the a hot tap is opened, some water may be released until the pressure is released. This will only happen once and the and should remain effectively full.

I also have an Avondale. When I was away in Spain during the winter I lost all my electrics. Eventually I removed the Zig unit and found the connecting plug in the back of the unit had been arcing on the neutral line and had burnt it, causing the RCD to trip. You can see the repair account on my web pages https://jondogoescaravanning.com/modifications-additions-to-my-rialto/
It's the last article on the page.
