Avtex whip antenna.

My van has an Avtekx antenna seemingly serving both radio and tv. The radio works well.
The Tv worked well the first time of use but will now not tune. By trying the TV on my house antenna where it is ok, it seems to be a fault in the caravan antenna installation.

The whip antenna feeds down to a splitter in the bedbox from which two leads go presumably to the tow installed antenna connections - one at front and one at rear. Neither of these provide a tunable signal so presumably the fault is between the whip antenna and this splitter, or perhaps the splitter itself. Acess to the other connections is going to be quite difficult so I'm looking for any information as to how the overall system is connected, where the radio connection is likely to be made and any other useful tips on checking it out.
The connections on the splitter are of the type with a very fine central conductor rather than the older type tubular plug or socket and appear sound.

Other forums have quite a lot of correspondence about the Avtex antenna much of it unfavourable. Every other caravan i have bought has had poor connections to the (usually) Status antenna and I had hoped this one would be different.

If sorting the built in system is going to be time consuming and annoying I plan to be an old fashioned external antenna and support pole instead, but thought I would seek advice first.

Hello again Sir Sprocket, I too have found very little information about this antenna - the Avtex site does not even acknowledge it's existence.

I am virtually certain there is no booster box included. I've now uncovered the base of the antenna and find there are 3 connections to it.
First is a (presumably) screed lead ending in what i believe is an F type connector going to the radio - the cable it is connected to is marked AM/FM
Second another F type connection to what appears to be standard co-ax - brown covered and which goes directly to the spiitter unit where two other similarly connected cables go to the two TV connection points in the caravan.
Third a twin red/black directly connected to the caravan 12v. supply. 12v 9 or more accurately 13.4v from the caravan unit is present at the connections which appear sound but are fully crimped i.e. not able to be disconnected / reconnected without cutting, so i can't check whether the radio will work without the antenna powered.

So it seems to come down to either the TV amplifier presumably built in to the antenna or the sprillet divice which I assume is passive (i.e. not powered device since there are no power connetions to it) and as such should not go wrong.

Radio and TV signals are not my thing so perhaps someone wwho knows could confirm.

The independent suppliers of such kit seem unanimous that omnidirectional antannae like this are far from idea and opt for Log periodic devices which are directional but much to be preferred. Again, I don't understand all the technicalities.

Hi Ray
I found this on a NZ web site just showing the aerial, in that link i found from the Swift M/H it said that it might have a booster fitted, I wonder if yours hasn't and maybe would work better with one fitted.... but it say's here that it has one built-in.

The ANT108 is a 300mm long whip style Antenna that has
an built-in amplifier that is powered from a 12v supply, very
easy to install the ANT108 is not only and AM / FM radio
antenna but also a digital and analogue TV antenna!

Thanks for going to all the trouble SS. That's exactly the antenna fitted. Next plan is to try connecting the TV directly to the antenna missing out the splitter, but this will have to wait a while until I can see enough to make up some F type connections (just had a cataract replacement yesterday and everything a bit bright and blurred for a while).

Or may not bother and just get an external periodic log antenna and pole. The pole will be usefull in Europe to support my i-boost wifi antenna anyway.
