The Lunar Delta RI won its class in our Practical Caravan Tourer of the Year Awards 2016 – and was then crowned the overall winner.

One of the stand-out features is the transverse rear island bed, with ensuite washroom.

We asked Andy Jenkinson to review this innovative new caravan in more detail and you can read his verdict in our 2016 Lunar Delta RI review.

What's your verdict on this four-berth caravan? Would you recommend it to a couple or a young family?

A layout that would appeal to us. All we need is the lottery to provide the cash for the caravan and a car big enough to tow it. Some of the interior does look to be straight out of the Quasar though and I would like to see some differention to make it look that bit more special.

Hi Raywood
We have been looking at Lunars and it seems the 'woodwork' is the same light oak throughout the ranges they only seem to change the upholstery which you can opt to switch between ranges anyway, and the colour of the locker doors and worktops, quite like the Lexon but still undecided, the standard upholstery is marmite IMHO.

Certainly would not make a family van. I don't know why but the woodwork, looks to me, more mid market than range topping.

Why do they always do the photo shoot with the sliding bed in the 'day position' why not have a photo showing just how much room there would be to get round in the middle of the night for that unexpected loo break ??

Quote ....
One of the Delta RI’s two comfortable doubles is the island bed at the rear. Lunar’s designers cleverly opted for a transverse bed measuring 1.83m x 1.34m. For less than £30 extra, it can be lengthened with an optional 0.10m extension for the supportive air-pocket mattress, making it 1.93m (6ft 4in) long.

The van's width is 2.33m ( 7'6" ) that will be the external measurment less the wall insulation on each side and the headboard, also the narrow ledge at the bottom looks like an ideal ankle smacker in the middle of the night .....

I think that this layout from Swift is better due to ease of access to each side of the bed ...

It's a magical van... the length is the same as the shipping length..perhaps the A frame folds away

In the filmed review on Caravan channel, the front sofas looked really short. Perhaps it was the camera angle.

It's magical reporting, Lunar's website says it is 7.885m shipping length. ;)

Sorry about that, it's just a typo – and has now been corrected!

As usual Sproket you are dead right, the problem we have is the gap at the end of the bed in transverse island bed models,we currently have rear island bed with split mid washroom but SWMBO insists she wants to go back to end washroom the Lexon Clubman Delta ranges are all 7'8 external most vans we have looked at are even narrower Eldiss make the problem worse by fitting bed that is 6'3 long with huge lump at the top of the bed where your pillows would be, makes we wonder whether manufacturers ever try using their caravans
