Am considering doing this, has anyone else done it?

If so, where's the best place to source awning rail and are there any pearls of wisdom to share?

Thanks.

I did it years ago. Served two purposes, drying the awning out. And an extra party room.

The wall needs to be flat as the rail will follow the contours. So consider fixing a batten first.

Check on the diameter of the piping first. The rails come in a variety of profiles. Not sure what the standard size for caravans is. Perhaps 10mm.

Hi

Did this inside my garage by attaching the awning rail to existing wooden shelves. Very easy to pull awning into the rail and support by two pairs of steps. Allows awning to dry or air if folded up wet or damp.

If its just as the title, "to dry the awning out", what I do is simply hang its section inverted from hooks on the skirt loops to the inside roof of our garage.
With the awnings roof that has no such handy skirt loops, I have made up a few short webbing straps with about 100 mm off cuts of the "8" profile plastic section, so they fix to the awnings roof bead. Instead of webbing you could use slices of redundant skirt, then it does not require using my bits of scrap bead I have sown on the straps.

Edit, I suppose you could readily use the clip-on blocks, if the awning uses these, as roof bead fixings.
