Hello , i measured our caravan yesterday for an awning. we measured it at 940cm

Ive got an awning coming from ebay which measures (935-959cm)

Just been looking at his site www.bradcot-awnings.co.uk put in our make and model etc and its come up as 960cm ??

Do you think this will be suitable or too short ??

Hi Jemma , I would say your purchase from EBay will be fine infact it maybe just a nice tight fitting awning.

If you look around different manufacturers do size thier awnings slightly differernt

I hope this helps

If you actually measured your van's "A" dimension, hopefully accurately, then your in a much better position to know what size it requires that any web-site quoted figure.

We found even a maker's brochure once got it wrong, so as you measured it dont worry.

HI JEMMA,

you don't state the make and model of your van,if you've measured your van correctly, with a length of string or some other method and have come up with 940,then the awningb youve purchased will fit perfectly.if you haven't and the measurement bradcot give is correct then i'm afraid the awning will be of no use to you.to say it will be tight is an 'understatement'any slight variation in ground level especially will be detremental to the shape and pegging out of the awning.

hi jemma,

yes you measure the awning size by using string and threading it from the floor at one side of the van up through the awning channel and down tio the floor the other side, you must make sure the caravan is level both side to side(which is the most important) and end to end.

When buying 2nd hand do you include the awning skirt in your final measurement? I've heard lots of debate on this point.

Cheers

Hi just been measuring with my string !!

Ive measured it to be 957 cm. so the cuddles estimate is pretty much right

so would the awning that i have bought from ebay be ok, which measures(935-959cm)..with only few cms to play with as such ?

hi jemma,

personally id have gone for a different make of awning(something like dorema whose size would have been 950-975) as the size is a wee bit awkward___it should fit,but there will not be much leeway, and the next size up would have been a better size to have but may have been a wee bit too big(big been better than small)to a certain degree, different manufacturers size there awnings differently so realy you have to try and get an awning thats got a least 4-5 cm either end of your awning rail size for a decent fit.try it when it comes, thats the only way, soon as you put poles in(no need to peg out) you should know straight away the way the mudwalling lies.

thanks for your reply

Ive emailed the seller and told them to cancel. Ill probably end up with a negative but rather that than spending alot of money and not fitting correctly

i had been looking at the Pyramid awnings .size 13 (960-985 cm) ?? with reference to the cuddles it says 965cm , so im going to go with that .

Sowould you recommend a Dorema awning ..so many on the market to choose from .We want to be able to put the extra stand up annexe on the side as well .

hi jemma.

cuddles take their information from the supplied data given by the manufacturer(in your case lunar)its not uncommon for the manufacturer to give a wrong dimension out for the awning size___IT ALWAYS PAYS TO MEASURE IT YOURSELF TO GET AN ACCURATE SIZING__if this has been done correct and 'YOU' get 957 cm the size 13 pyramid awning is 'too big' you have to get an awning size where the measurement you have taken sits inbetween the maximum and minum size stated by the manufacturer(957 does not fit inbetween 960-985)so you can now see the awning is too big___you need the next size down______ie 12____just make sure you have measured the awning size (ground through the awning channel to ground other side and only when your satisfied you have measured it correctly then tyou can choose the awning accordingly.it can get complicated when the awning size is within a couple of cm of the maximum sizing, the next size up is usually a better fit,but as i have said,go with an awning manufacturer where the awnings size has a minumum below your 957 measurement and a maximum above 957 __preferably at least by 3-4 cm either way which is the better fit

Personally I prefer an awning where you peg from the outside not the inside, Isabellas and Bradcots are outsiders, Our Dorema Toronto porch awning is an insider. Just another consideration for you.
