Awning Storage

Advice for a newbie!

Where should we store our awnings. We have a full size NR and a Suncamp porch awning and we don't know where to store it over winter.

We know not to leave it in the 'van. Do we keep them in our garage (watertight since the new roof! but it does have the tumble drier in - vented outside)

Do we put them in the loft?

Do we try and find room for them somewhere in a wardrobe?

Help please

Hi Diane,

We store both of our awnings and associated junk in the loft over winter while we aren't using them. We do caravan all year round, but not with an awning.

Diane,

As Neal does, we leave the full awning in the loft during Autum to Spring, but as we are away most week-ends, the small awning stays in the caravan,

best regards, Martin

The bradcot XL porch (for sale) is in the utility room and the sunncamp ultima stays in the van, once dry as out all winter, if we have a longer break, say 3 weeks at home then it comes into the utility. Have kept on the rafters in the garage but have never put the car in when it's wet. The loft is okay but don't try and get it all up at once, take it up bit by bit

Wherever you store the awning make sure you label the bags '1 of 3' '2 of 3' '3 of 3' or whatever. That way you make sure to take all the components with you. Yes, I know it should not happen but " been there, got the T shirt.....". Anyone else done that?

Just a thought about storing your awning at home. Your home insurance will more than likely not cover you in the event of anything happening to it eg. fire/theft/accidental damage as it is deemed to be a caravan accessory and as such is not covered under the majority of home insurance policies. I know many people insure them with their caravan insurance but I must admit I insured my van but not my awning, since learning this fact I have insured my awning too.
