If I couple a twin axle caravan up to a estate , will the tag axle lift off the ground or is they something to keep on the ground. Or does the wheel not lift off the ground?

Thanks

The wheels should stay on the ground if you have loaded the van correctly and this holds good for any twin axle. But gauging noseweight on TAs is a bit more difficult than single axles as the measurement is sensitive to the height of the hitch when you carry out the measurement. If you search the Forum you will find quite a lot on this topic as a while back there was a long thread discussing TA noseweight measurement.

I hope you are aware that there are not many estate cars that can tow a twin axle caravan safely as the MTPLM will be very close to the GMW of the estate car.

Hi Mikaroony

You are certainly going through the list of manufacturers!
Sometimes it's best to take a step back and establish the maximum safe MTPLM your car can handle.
Years ago we had to compromise until we could afford a 4x4 and get a TA.
However as Lutz will say there are SA's out there just as big as a TA.
Once you have established your maximum weight then check out the layout that will best suit you. Thereafter have a good look at all the manufacturers wares but in particular ensure you do buy from a reputable decent dealer not too far away from home / storage.
