There are contributors more expert than I in batteries, but the most important thing is that the caravan battery is NOT the same animal as a car battery. Caravan batteries are usually know as leisure batteries.

once this is established, it depends on your pattern of use of the caravan and whether you have a motor mover fitted. The generally accepted minimum rating for such a van is 80AH (ampere-hours) and many of us use 110AH. The latter is physically bigger than the former so check sizes and dimensions of your battery box.

Ideally leisure batteries should be kept on charge with either the charger unit in the caravan or another specialised charger but NOT a standard car battery charger.

If you are a Caravan Club member, go to their website and download their technical leaflet on batteries - it explains things far better than I can.

Hi Bob

I hear what Ray is saying and yes 110amp is probably the best to go for .

If you are now layed up fo the winter then this a good time to remove your battery and take it home, and keep it topped up

I have just taken off a 70 amp battery that came with my first caravan some eight years ago.

Winter time all I did was give a good charge up ,now the only difference is I used and 11 amp charger to charge it with and it is still good I only changed due to bigger caravan and some items neeeded a bit more power .

Sorry Ray Im not trying to put up an arguement Its just what I do.

The construction of the battery you need is largely dictated by where on your van it is located.

If the battery is in a locker that is sealed from the habitation area, and vents externally, you don't need to consider using a GEL battery and save up to
