Many U.S. rv'ers use 2 6 volt golf cart battery's connected in series instead of a deep 12 volter is this common over here also?

Can't see any good technical reason except for, perhaps space and balance, but this will add two more connections with potential to get corroded. Plus I doubt 2x6v will be any cheaper than 1x12v.
