Always use Rowntree Park when staying at York, but because it's booked up gonna have to stay at Beechwood around Christmas time.

How eseay is it to get into York w/o using the car? What's the best way? Will be going in for shopping and evening entertainment.

Cheers Mark

All you have to do when you leave the site is cross the small roundabout, then drive for about 3/4 mile and at the next roundabout take the second exit which will take you to the park and ride ( Monk's Cross ).

Hi Mark, we go to york caravan park a lot. The coastliner bus service is excelent and cheap for a return ticket into the town.

However, if you come out of the site and turn right along the ring road you will come to the roundabout where the park and ride is situated for "Monks Cross Shopping centre" and the park and ride. It is the most effective way getting into the town. The taxis are quite reasonable to.

Have a great time in that lovely city.

We have used Beechwood Grange when visiting the York area, mainly because the Rowntree site was always full and I have yet to get a booking. Now I at least know 1 'culprit'.

Beechwood Grange is fine although there is some road noise. As mentioned the shopping area at Monks Cross also has a Park and Ride. Just make sure you get off at the Jarvik Centre stop as the next one is a very very long way out of town and the bus drivers usually omit to tell you that fact. The return stop is outside M&S which is quite handy. Be also aware the Park and Ride shuts about 6pm so if you fancy a night out in York, do not leave the car there.

Just a reminder if using the Coastliner bus service(excellent service)when leaving the site cross the roundabout should be easier now on foot due to installation of traffic signals and walk along malton road(1036)towards York.Turn left into Hopgrove lane South nr pub and walk up to `T`junction this is Stockton Lane the Coastliner bus route there are bus stops either direction within 200 yds.Whatever you do dont wait at the bus stop nr roundabout on 1036 not been used by a bus for years.Hope you enjoy your visit to our lovely city,do not use carparks in town, too pricey at least Dick Turpin wore a mask:eek:)

Regards
