I amtrying to get from the Tenbury side of Leominster to the Llandrindod side this coming Saturday. Due to how busy the town centre might be at the time I hit it ~10:30am, is there a better route I could take?

I have noticed on the map, from off the A44 via Leominster Business Park, Southern Avenue, Passa Lane, Ivington Road, Newtown Lane then back onto A44 cuts out the town centre - is this a recommended route to take with a van to avoid the twon centre?

Any other advice welcome.

Hi Wombat.

Don't use passa lane, it's single track and the Ivington road is not much wider. I've lived around Leominster since 1964.

When you get to Tenbury wells, carry straight on and don't turn into the town center as that is narrow too and there is a 1 in 6 hill on the road to Leominster.

Instead go to the junction of the A49 opposite the Salway arms pub at Wooferton. Go straight on at the cross roads heading for Shobdon/Presteigne. Stay on that road until you come to another cross roads with the Mortimers cross pub on it. Again go straight on heading to Shobdon. When you enter Shobdon turn left just after the shop heading towards the air field and Staunton on Arrow. Stay on that road until you come to a cross road that you give way on (about 1.5 miles). Go straight on at that cross roads and stay on that lane (2 cars wide) until you reach the A44 in approx 1.5 miles. Turn right there. You are now about 5 miles from Kington and have missed Leominster out all together.

This route is used by lorries during the week to by pass Leominster to get to the midlands much quicker, on a saturday, you shouldn't meet many lorries.

Currently in Leominster there are road works on the wales trunk road which has caused 2 mile ques of traffic and has been a nightmare.

If you set your sat nav for Via points of Shobdon and Kington on your route to Llandrindod, it should take you along this route which is a very scenic by-pass of Lemner as us locals call it.

Safe journey.

Steve L.

BTW there is a little chef at Wooferton.

MISSED A BIT OF INFO!

After Salway arms go to end of that road then turn left, again signed Shobdon/Presteigne.

Sorry Wombat, the old brain wasn't quite in gear.

Steve

So to be clear: at the end of the A456 I do a right, then left to go past the Salway Pub?

Then I follow the B4362 until junction with B4361, turn left onto B4361,

Follow B4361 to where joins again with B4362 - how easy is it to miss this right turn?

Then follow B4362 to Shobdon.

At Shobdon turn left towards Marston.

Pass Marston, and go on to junction with A44.

I have had a look at satellite view on google, doesn,t look too twisty.

I can do about 50mph on this road can I?

What about taking the A4110 at Mortimers Cross to get to the A44?

Thanks

Wombat

So just to confirm that would be the B4362 onto B4361 then onto the B4362 again, then past Marston to the A44?

What about taking the A4110 at Mortimers Cross onto the A44?

Thanks

Wombat

Yep it is a staggered cross roads at the salway.

You could use A4110 at mortimers cross, but that does defeat the object of being a short cut. Most of the route is good enough to sustain 50Mph, but as ever you'll have to drive within your ability.
