We usually go to Pavillon Royal. It's a great site. The weather isn't quite the Med. but the water is much warmer than here and it's mostly sunny. Although sometimes the sea can be very rough and the weather quite changeable. So make sure that you are well strapped down, particularly if you are away for the day. Last year a few people returned to find rooflights gone and parasols, awnings and poles dammaged after one sudden storm.
Biarritz is great and you can walk there along the beach at low tide. You don't say when your going but on 15th August there is a fantastic firework display in the evening which shouldn't be missed.
Bayonne isn't bad. They hold a week long Basque festival at the end of july - begining of August. The sort of thing where the bulls run through the streets. Everyone is dressed in white with red beret's, neckerchief's and belts.
St Jean de Luz is a lovely place with some nice restaurants and shops. Two evenings a week throughout July & August they have the 'battle of the confetti'. Firstly there is a Basque choir in the square near the harbour which is followed by a large steel bull with fireworks shooting out in every direction and all the children are armed with bags of confetti. It's great fun.
Hendaye is nice. There is a marina full of very expensive craft, a long safe beach and for about 1 euro you can take the ferry across the river to the Spanish town of Hondarribia.
A drive into the Pyrenees is well worth the effort and the little train, La Rhune, which goes up to the summit is a must.
San Sebastian and even Bilbao aren't too far away for something different.
Hope thi helps
