took off the cover after winter storage last week. All well apart from cursed black spot mould on fly screens. Last year we left them up. this year we left them down. No difference with accursed mould again. This year I took them out to clean, easier than cleaning in situ. Mould and mildew cleaner with toothbrush.( no not me the wife). All clean again now but how to avoid it next winter. Also, November, clean van outside, wife cleans inside to within an inch of its life. All cushions, seats etc out and into the house. Rear bed up. tube heater for when really cold, all water drained. Cover on. Remove cover end March, clean van- again. Is it better to NOT have cover?
Just had shakedown trip to Cornwall - FREEZING. Got back yesterday and today the front spring on the car snapped - thank goodness it didn't happen yesterday! Cornwall as beuatiful as ever though. Ready for the Lakes in two weeks:)

I suspect you are being too clean. The agent your wife uses will probably be alkaline- almost all cleaners are. This creates an environment that allows fungi to grow. (the cleaning water can also be a cause if it is hard.) I use a very dilute solution of citric acid to overcome the dreaded black spot. As they say check on a hidden bit first.

You hear of it more and more now. It happened on my daughter's Citroen a couple of months ago and only this morning the other daughter's Pug got an MOT advisory that the front springs were corroded. Road salt - speed humps and pot holes - I guess.
