blowing cold

hi, hope everyone had a lovely xmas,

I spent a lovely week away at cirencester park over christmas, lots of pressies however my bailey let me down or rather the carver fanmaster, in the middle of the coldest night while running on the electric it stopped blowing lovely warm air and started blowing cold very cold air! once I realised I lost the feeling in my extremities I switched to gas! tested the fuse tried the turning off then on again approach, the fan works fine, but no heat on the electric, all vents are clear, does anyone know whats broke? how to fix? or even where to look? yes sorry I'm clueless to where the bits and pieces hide in the van!

Did you try it on electric after about an hour. When we run ours on electric it cuts out as the thermostat is behind the heater which causes it to cut out when on electric, when it cools down it works fine again.

If it still doesnt work there is a reset switch for the heater.

Karl go to page 4 of "technical" and see "fault on fanmaster heater" and you'll find a wealth of information on this problem

sometimes this happens in our van and we have a switch inside a cupboard where the fire is we have to take the drawer out and behind the fire is a switch you need to reset the switch either up or down. Hope this helps. My husband says its the rocker switch.

We have a Northstar award with the same heating system and we had the same faule, It turned out to be two control switches behind the control panel one of which had a printed circuit board which had blown so both had to be replaced. We always take our van to Vantage caravans they did the whole job for

Another possible reason is the position of the thermostat. In my Coachman it is at floor level almost next to the heater and gets warm through the locker wall & switches the heater off. I have lagged the inside of the locker at that corner with polystyrene block, also boxed in the back of the thermostat. This helps considerably.

Caravan designers don't seem to know much about placing thermostats. I've seen one van where it was built-in to the covering of the Carver exhaust, so was bound to switch off early. Carver do make a remote sensor which wires into the main control unit, but these appear to be fairly expensive - has anyone any experience with them ?

We have had remote sensors fitted to our last three new caravans from new. Our last new van a Senator Wyoming came with one already fitted. Our dealer offered to change the position of the sensor if we found it's position to be unsuitable. The remote sensors are excellent if fitted in the correct position. The correct position obviously depends on the fire position and layout of the caravan. We have dealt with our dealer Golden Castle Caravans for 20 years and have had 7 new vans from them all with excellent service.

In our experience it certainly pays to build up a relationship with a dealer.

glad to hear golden castle are helpful we have ordered an indiana from them could have used broad lane caravans but friends told us they were poor at warranty work
