BMW 330d Touring Rocks!

I posted on here a while ago for comments on the suitability of a BMW 330d Touring as a towcar.

Anyway I bought a new one last month a 330d Touring Auto M Sport as have just used it for the first time to tow my Avondale Osprey and I have to say it was fantastic! It drove so well, was always stable and the power/torque of that engine would pull St. Pauls.

What a car! I had a VW Touareg before and even being a 2.5TDI it didn't pull half as well as the BMW.

Thanks for all the help chaps.

Hi Mark,

I know the feeling! I have an Alfa 147 147 JTD (140BHP) and its stonking! I tow a 2005 Lunar Clubman and she is so stable and powerful. It pulls and pulls up the hills and I just wave goodbye to all the cumbersome 4x4's.

So much emphasis is on 4x4's these days but I personally think they are over rated and in the event of an outfit becoming unstable, a 4x4 must be less stable to to wholloy suspension, high centre of gravity and high profile tyres surely?

Smaller cars have always towed well in our family and even more so now their kerbweights have shot through the roof....I took my one to the weighbridge a short while ago and it came out as 1410kg's WITHOUT a driver!

Great news though Mark - I am pleased for you. I love the 3.0d.

Totally agree with Toby on this one, Mark, I am jealous, family requirements mean I run a 140 bhp 2.0tdci Ford S-max and that goes well and handles like no seven seater should, but a 3.0 in a smaller car will make you easy to spot, your'e the one with a big cheesy grin on your face!!!! just watch out for plod. You probably get better mpg than a 2.0d 4x4 too.
